    Hi fellow muggers!

I want to ask about safari. I'm using Safari while typing this post but the problem is, I can't use the tabbing function like I usually do. When I open a tab and type an address in the bar, the newly opened tab wont function and the new address I entered would just be present in the formerly opened tab.

in short, let's say that I have 2 tabs opened.
    first tab: yahoo mail
then I decided to open another tab for tumblr. when I typed tumblr.com and hit the enter key, the tumblr would then open to the yahoo mail tab, leaving the second tab un-clickable and blank.

what do you think the problem is?

thanks in advance for those who'll reply :)

    Re: Safari question :)

What version of Safari are you using? And OS please?

Have you reviewed the Tabs preferences?

The latest version of Safari is 4.0.4. You might want to upgrade to the latest version and see if it solves your problem?

I tried downloading and installing it already but it says:
You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer.

    Re: Safari question :)

Where did you download it from? I suggest you run Software Update, then let it download and update everything... Safari is included there as well as the updates for Mac OS X itself. :)

You have to update your OS first. Run Software Update and install the update for your OS.

Do what Bem suggested. Run Software Update (Apple Menu->Software Update) and download/update everything.

Probably still on 10.5.7. Yup as everybody suggests, update your software. It may take a while I'm sure. You can deselect the ones that you opt to get later and prioritize 10.5.8 (a big chunk of megabytes here).

    Here's more of that. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606

I also suggest to update to Snow Leopard if you have an Intel Mac. Enjoy.

    Re: Safari question :)

I have edited the thread title to avoid any confusion as "safari question" is too broad.

Also, I'm moving this thread to the iApps forum.

    Re: Safari question :)

hi muggers. I really don't know what the problem is, whether its simply on my OS or what. I encountered the same problem again today that I needed to open a new window for another site (which is supposed to be viewed on a tab. )

do I need to update the OS again? what do you guys think could the problem be?

super thanks again for the help =)

Did you downgrade your OS? Is it occurring in a certain only or for all sites you visit?

You have probably installed a 3rd party application that resulted to this behavior. Is it Safari alone? Have you tried Firefox or Chrome and do the tabbing as you described it.

ijingo is right. if you have 3rd party application like chrome or firefox, it will affect the behavior of your safari. did you reset safari? what site opens to a new window? is there a particular site?

I installed Firefox before and I use it sometimes when the Safari problem persists and so far, I have no problem with Firefox's tabbing feature unlike in Safari.
