my safari web browsing has been so slow when i started to install 10.3.8 upgrade.
loading of a web page takes 3-4mins at 44kbps

i don't think it's an isp issue because when i log-in using the same account w/ my pc i get fast downloads also at 44kbps.

other apps i installed are security upgrage 2005-002, and java update, and mac janitor.

pls. help me. thanks. i don't want to upgrade anymore to .9 after experiencing this.

should i restore to factory setting? thanks

but 10.3.9 is what will make your Safari faster. you should go for it.

Just make sure you have downloaded the necessary updates like Security Update 2005-002 and Java, just in case it doesn't go well.

FYI, we're now at 2005-004 already. Don't be afraid to update your computer to current versions. If your system can't hack it, there's always a fix (usually is software related). I think it's better to know now if there's something wrong with your system.

You should also try the following maintenance procedures:
    1. Repair Permissions (found in Disk Utility).
    2. Shut down and reset PMU and PRAM.

Reset PMU - hold down the following keys: Shift+Ctrl+option and Power Button (for a few seconds)
Reset PRAM - while booting up, hold down Apple+option+P+R. Wait for the chime to sound at least three times before letting go.

    Good luck.

Here's what I did. Trash Safari. Reinstall. Period.

I dunno what really solved my problem, I performed all the tips except the hack using Terminal windows but my old safari keeps on failing since Monday. (bug is when you hit the close window button, it also quits).

    Thanks everyone!

i think i need to upgrade my ram from 256 to 758mb. a single safari window is working fine. but 2 to 3 safari windows..still slow.

i still have to download the .9 from my pc. it might take me more than 3hrs if i download it using my ibook.

Yes, you definitely have to upgrade your RAM. 256MB is barely enough.

Just wondering, why will it take longer to download using your iBook? Are they on different network connections? With regards to Safari, does it perform better if you open pages in new tabs instead of new windows? You'll have to have tabs enabled in Safari -> Preferences -> Tabs.

    hi pat,

i'm using the same dial up connection w/ my ibook &pc.

i had problems w/ my ibook's internet connection after installing .8, i think the reason behind it is that i was not able to install the security updates and java updates.

i already installed .9 and safari is now back to normal.

i already enabled tabs after reading ur post. thanks
