mm...sad day for the world of comics. Legendary Marvel comics creator passed away today at age 95. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/stan-lee-marvel-comics-legend-721450 Excelsior!
Rest in Peace Mr Lee. I had always been a DC Comics fan growing up, but I do appreciate Stan Lee's numerous contributions to the comic book world. Excelsior!!!
Where did his catchphrase "Excelsior!" come from? It started back in the '60s when Stan "The Man" Lee started his monthly column, Stan's Soapbox, in Marvel's Bullpen Bulletins. Lee ended every column with the catchphrase, "Excelsior!". Since then, it has become his trademark motto. Considering the showman that he is, he just likes to sign off with the catchphrase. Here's more on it directly from the horse's mouth: "I used to have a lot of expressions that I would end my comic book columns with: Hang Loose, Face Front, 'Nuff Said, and I found that the competition was always imitating them and using them. So, I said I'm going to get one expression that they're not going to know what it means, and they won't know how to spell it. And that's where excelsior came from, and they never did take up on it, thank goodness."

Farewell, Stan "The Man" Lee. Such an inspiration to many generations. Truly he is the one and only true superhero of everyone's youth (and even adulthood). He will live on in the hearts and minds of all who have been touched by him and his creations. Excelsior!
Thanks for making some of my favourite movies—Jungle Fever, Do The Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, Malcolm X, and BlacKKKlansman But seriously, thank you for brilliantly gracing this dying planet—which could use a real superhero.
Stan Lee used to say "You know, entertainment is one of the most important parts of one's life; if you get to entertain people, then you are doing a good deed."
I'm glad that Stan Lee lived a long life, long enough to witness his comic books evolve with changing times, and to see the different attempts at TV and Movie adaptations. So many of his fellow comic pioneers have gone ahead - Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, etc When I was a kid I really didn't know what was going on in the world, yet I knew Stan Lee's name and even what he looked like, and I'd read that word "Excelsior!". I loved his comic books (and I loved the advertisements in his comic books, which were wonders from the western world). I even loved the Philippine prints of the X-men comics, even if they only sold a handful of issues which made it super bitin. (Were those even licensed publications? Anyone know?) With so much media available now from internet access, streaming networks, and social media, children today will never experience the range of emotions that the printed pages of Stan Lee's original comic books brought kids in the previous century. Thanks for shaping my universe, Stan Lee. - from a True Believer
Hope he got to resolve his financial issues before he passed. So sad that some people around him were trying to swindle his fortune in his final days. Goodbye Mr Lee.
