Yup try Audio Hijack Pro and set it to record from Firefox. WireTap Studio is also an alternative.

ok..VLC is a media player, it cant extract audio and video from youtube.. :-(

you want to extract audio ? video ? or both ?? ..

if you want to record the audio, use audacity , Audio Hijack Pro, wiretap
if you want to record the video on youtube, .. try youtubedownloader... or google it.. there's lots of site and add ons on firefox that do this..

You can try this to extract an audio from a YouTube video using QuickTime (not sure if this works with the non-Pro version).

Download the YouTube video (use KeepVid if you don't have a Flash video downloader). You will need Perian if your saved video is in .flv format.

Open the video file. Then press cmd-J or Window>show movie properties under QuickTime. A window like this will appear:

    uncheck 'Video Track'

The QuickTime movie window will now appear like this:

    Then save it. :)

Sound file, yes (aiff, wav, wma). MP3, no. I usually do it with QuickTime Pro. I can save/convert/export any movie file to an audio format. VLC is used to PLAY media files. Note: PLAY only. I personally don't use it since QuickTime with Perian satisfy my needs.

For .flv to .mp3 direct conversion, try iExtractMP3. Very easy to use, just drag the flv file and click 'extract'.

  16. If I want to extract audio from Youtube, I go to listentoyoutube.com =)
