Rebuilding Entourage Database [formerly \"troubleshoot\"] Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have been using Entourage to view my mails, and just yesterday, my Entourage would not open. The window that pops up says: "Entourage cannot access your data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your database". And then another window: "To rebuild your database, quit all other Microsoft Office Programs and try again". I've done this several times and I do not use other programs while opening Entourage, but the same windows pop up. I have tried going to other sites to ask for help rebuilding my database but it has been futile. Can anyone help? Thanks very much. I used to use Entourage but that never happened to me. If nothing you've tried works, then you might have to reinstall the program using your installer CD. I once had to reinstall my copy and I didn't lose any of my data or my settings. But just in case, make a back up copy of the folder "Microsoft User Data" which should be located in your Documents folder. Place the back up in another folder. Reinstall the program. Cut and paste your back up into the Documents folder after installation. It'll ask you to replace the newer w/ the older. Click yes. Also to be safe, you may want to make back up copies of any Microsoft info in your /user/Library/Application Support folder and your preference files in your /user/Library/Preferences folder. Hope this helps.
Hi Ems, If you have tried to rebuild your database and still the same window keeps on popping out, you may need to use "Advanced Rebuild" option (I am assuming you are using Entourage X). BUT, a word of warning, you may loose some of your emails. Back up your email folder as JOR's recommendation, then do the "Advanced Rebuild". You may not need to re-install the Entourage. And by the way, do not forget to bin your old database. It eats a lot of space. You may also want to check that your email database is not occupying 1GB of space. Keep it as small as possible to prevent problems in the future. Hope this works. [Edited on 12-8-05 by Dinkydoo]
