Hi, I plugged my friend's external HDD (NTFS format) to my mac, and could only read from the device. I am unable to write to the device. Is it because it's NTFS formatted? Are we simply incompatible? Or is there a way to allow my mac to write to the NTFS ext hdrive?
If you stopped picking your nose from your avatar, there's a software by Paragon named NTFS for MacOSX. It will allow you to write on NTFS.
Oh booger. Paid app. Any freeware alternative for a cheapskate like me? I wouldn't wanna pay for a friend's incompatible harddrive (*evil grin*). Thanks for the quick response. (PS: iLove iCreate)
Good question. I don't think there is (feel free to correct me if there is a free option). Thanks for the iCreate comment.
apologies for resurrecting this thread....but i just want to know if anyone is currently using the Macfuse to write large files to an NTFS formatted external hd? it's just that i read somewhere that it works but it is just too slow to be actually usable. also, some had problems when shutting down their macs. are these true? is the current version (April 2009) stable now? thanks in advance!
FUSE works just fine with OS X. It's what Parallels uses to read and write between HFS+ and NTFS-formatted VMs.
