I've been searching previous threads to answer this but couldn't find any..

Is it possible to overlay subtitles (e.g. .srt file) to a an .avi movie file in quicktime?

It is possible to play .srt files in QuickTime. Be sure to install Perian first to enable this feature. Also, be sure that the file name of the .srt and the .avi are exactly the same and that they are in the same folder.

If you save the .avi file as .mov, the subtitles will be 'hard-coded', i.e., a permanent part of the scenes.

Thanks for the lead. Aside from subtitles support, it also gives you support to additional video and audio codecs.
