Hey folks. I'm trying to play videos that are encoded in the proprietary formats of RealPlayer. To my surprise VLC will not play them. Anyone know of a downloadable Codec that'll allow them to be played in either QT or VLC? I'll download & use RealPlayer if I have to, but does anyone know of an alternative to this. VLC is my primary (non-iTunes) media player, with QuickTime as distant 2nd. I'd rather avoid the need for installing Real just to avoid having such a single use application.
@pandaboy: Slight correction then to my situation. The files WILL play on VLC. However, as I mentioned, these are video files. When VLC does play it, it only plays the audio. The video isn't displayed. And these are definitely video files that I have.
You can covert it to AVI using FFmpegX Here's how http://appleclinic.wordpress.com/2008/04/21/convert-rmvb-avi-ppc-intel/
@yasaki: Please be reading my posts. VLC is not be working. Video is not be showing. Videos is not be showing in Quicktime either. Videos is not be recognized by QT. @wildcard: Thanks for the tip. Will check it out.
BTW, if your file fails to convert, try renaming the .rm to .rmvb, and run it again. it should be fine.
