I imported the emails in my gmail directory into my addressbook.

I'm trying to send an email using Mail.

But I keep on getting the error message that the server doesn't recognize certain email addresses.

I can send email to the same email addresses using gmail without any problem.

Why am I having a problem when using Mail? :D

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

    TIA.

    Cheers!

    Hi Jo,

Try checking out the migrated emails in you contact list, check if there's some prefix or characters that was included during the importation of your email addresses.

    e.a : (before migration) [email protected] , (after migration) ;[email protected] or [email protected];

Sometimes migration process adds certain characters on you data. The best way to export data such as contact list would be in text format or CSV file.

    Hope this helps.

I finally solved it. But the cause of the problem was weird.

Some of the entries in my directory got their first names and last names switched during import.

I now have to go through the entries in my address book one at a time and switch first names with last names.

I dunno why - but it now possible for me to use Mail without any errors.

    Cheers!

    @ Parc

Commas (,) were added to each last name when the first and last names got swapped.

But the commas were only added to the names. They weren't present in the email address itself.

How does this affect my outgoing mail?

Unless, when there are multiple names and addresses, and the comma appended to the name is interpreted by Mail as a separator for different email addresses?

    Cheers!

You don't need to do it one by one, just go to Address Book preferences and sort by First Name or Last Name.

I tried that - it still didn't work.

I had to go through each name and erase the comma for every address that got the first name and last name switched.

I now have a new problem. I can't send mail because I can't connect to the server.

Looks like it's a problem with my ISP though according to Mail's Help menu.

    Cheers!
