I can no longer get Preview to show my images! Whenever I double-click on an image file, the Preview icon appears on the dock and my CPU utilization jumps to 100% - but the image isn't shown. I would have to kill the Preview process to return CPU utilization to normal levels. Image files may still be viewed as thumbnails under Finder, but when you click on them, Preview says that it's not responding. However, there's no problem whenever I drag images to iPhoto (v5.03). The images are imported, viewed, and edited as usual. How can I get preview to show my images once again? Help!! I'm using OS X 10.3.9 on a 1GHz iBook G4 with 768MB RAM.
First things first, have you restarted your Mac? Most of us almost never shut down, and a restart usually fixes small problems like this. Better yet, shut down then reset PMU and PRAM. Reset PMU - hold down the following keys: Shift+Ctrl+option and Power Button (for a few seconds) Reset PRAM - while booting up, hold down Apple+option+P+R. Wait for the chime to sound at least three times before letting go. Have you repaired permissions? That should be your first recourse. If that still doesn't fix the problem, find and trash the com.apple.Preview.plist file. Let us know which one fixes your problem.
You da man, elbert. I deleted the .plist file you mentioned and everything's back to normal. What a quick-fix! Thanks man.
