Install Tiger on it and update to 10.4.11. Just make sure you have at least 512MB or more.

I'm using a PowerBook G4 Titanium with 400Mhz and 512mb of RAM. Tiger (10.4.11) runs so well in my TiBook.

    other installed apps are:

    Safari 4.0.2
    Firefox 3.5.3
    Opera 10
    Adium 1.3.6
    iPhoto 7.1.5
iTunes 8.2.1 (can use version 9.0.1)
    YM beta 3.0
    Office 2004
    Adobe Photoshop CS

    +1 on Tiger

My Powerbook is 5 years old as well with 1 GB RAM and it is working fine. I tried Leopard before but it was noticeably slower so I brought it back down to Tiger.
