Hi all, why is it whenever I open an image with Photoshop CS3, it always turns up darker? It's like my photoshop automatically adusts the contrast and brightness of the image. I don't think it has something to do with the calibration of my monitor since when I save the image, it stays dark. Is it a problem within my settings? Anyone has the same experience? Please help. Thank you very much!

Compared to all. It's like my PS is adjusting the image's brightness and contrast automatically. Any image that I open with PS turns out darker and stays darker after saving it.

That's weird, maybe you are previewing it and saving it in CMYK.

this is normal if the file is in CMYK. if he shoots in RAW, Adobe Camera Raw automatically adjusts the images to what it thinks is correct exposure.

i can't really recommend a proper solution since the problem is not properly explained.

    Here's a comparison

The left pic is the original (unedited) which is opened with Preview while the right pic is opened with Photoshop. Notice that the one opened with PS is darker. My problem is, every time I open an image (any types of image, may it be from my camera, the internet, etc.), PS darkens it. And no, as you can see, it is in RGB and not CMYK. What I only want is for my PS to stop darkening my images, that' all. :(

Might you have Soft proofing active?
View menu, take out that check beside Proof Colors.

I might be mistaken though, it's been a long while since I've used Photoshop and have removed it from my computer already.

Oh, and what color profile did you shoot in? You might be messing up your color-spaces.
