Disk Utility can't recognize the portable hard drive..
Can your Mac read and open files in the hard drive? Could it edit files?
Could it be read by a PC? It's probably the format of the drive. If both the Mac and PC could not recognize the drive and read files, then your HD is probably corrupted or physically damaged.
Tried turning off the spotlight and the issue is fixed! the hard drive is now visible on my mac and doesn't eject automatically.
Hoping that the issue won't happen again :crossed fingers:
is there a way to send an SMS not an Imessage using the messages app? Lets say weve been communicating through imessage then the person im messaging runs out of "internet". Is there a way i can select the messges i text to be in sms rather than in imessage format?
Turn off your internet before sending your message or send as iMessage then long press the message and select send as text message.
I want to do a clean install on my old Macbook. I understand the Appstore will only update my current OS X. Where can I get OS X Yosemite? Thanks
You can get OS X Yosemite from the App Store. It doesn't just update your current OSX.
Sorry. But what i meant was sending an SMS through my mac...if i disable the internet...wont my mac also disconnect from my phone?
your phone is connected via bluetooth, so messaging via mac should still work even without wifi.
for call forwarding on the other hand, both the mac and the iphone should be connected on the same wifi router/access point.
Hi, as I was verifying my disk, this appeared. I just want to know if I should be worried about it. Thanks in advance.
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
^ Nothing to worry about, in my opinion. It's a fairly common "warning" based on what I've read so far. I've had that "warning" for years and never had any issues.
OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 is out!
hi i recently got my sister's macbook air. its a late 2010 model, 2gb, 60gb 1.4ghz. its still at 10.6.5, but i can update it to 10.6.8. should i upgrade this to os x yosemite? will it affect its performance? (newbie here sorry)
Got it yesterday. Was in 10.9 and intentionally waited until for the WiFi issue to be resolved. No problems as of now. Everything's soooooooooooo Helvetica Neue
^the wifi issue has been fixed since 10.10.1
Well, based on all the complaints I read in Apple Support forums apparently not. So I finally pulled the trigger when they did this:
"One of the most notable bug fixes with OS X 10.10.4 is the removal of the ‘discoveryd’ networking process in favor of a return to ‘mDNSResponder’, which aims to improve the the performance, reliability, and stability of networking components in OS X for Wi-Fi and local networking."
Perhaps they didn't do their homework - i.e. maintenance after the update.
mine gets sent out as text if the recipient I'm sending the supposedly iMessage has no access to the internet.
Make sure you set your iPhone to send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable.

Hi, currently having issues on disk space on my Mac (Retine, Late 2012) currently on OS X 10.10.3 (downloading the 10.10.4 update)
I was downloading a 21GB file (gmail archive backup) however, download was not completed when I got disconnected on my wifi (stopped at 20GB), now google doesn't allow you to reconnect, so I have to start from 0. So I deleted the 20GB file downloaded, prior to deletion, I checked my free space using the terminal (df -h), it shows I have 4GB left, so I am assuming after removing the 20GB it'll be 24GB free space, so I deleted the file but still the free space is 4GB, I tried to use the CleanMyMac app. It shows I have 5GB that it can free up, after freeing up, the terminal only shows around 7GB free space.
This happened before when I was in Mavericks, what I usually do is restart my mac or shut it down then boot it up after 15-30mins. Now this doesn't work and I can redownload the file as I only have 7GB space. When I checked all folders under / and sum up the disk used, its only around 100GB (my mac is 256GB SSD).
Has anyone experienced this? Do I just need to run a 'clearer' app?
Thanks in advance!
