The downloading was completed by 11:35 a.m. so that was about 14 hrs. 35 mins. of download time. I was also able to make a usb installation disk. Upon completing the installation, I got a notice that I have some applications that would not work with ML. How would I know which one? Would I just try each and every app?

I own very few apps but the ones I use work great so far:

Adobe CS5 Design Premium (indesign fix is a must download from adobe)
iWork (old retail disk version but the App Store updated it)
    Adobe Lightroom (App Store version)
    Google Chrome

I did the long way clean install... Updated Lion... Booted from recovery... Did the Disk Utility erase... Installed ML clean...

Didnt read about the USB thing til I was done... So ML downloaded twice...

Updated 2 computer simultaneously my MBP and the wife's MBA... Both over Globe 3G off my iPhone...

Downloaded mine from 8:00PM until 9:00AM. I'm using PLDT MyDSL Plan 1299 (768kbps). Too lazy to do clean install. Installation was fast and smooth :)

Safari is snappier. Although the animation in the location bar while loading the page seems to trick the eye and brain into thinking that pages are loaded fast :)

In my case, display setting is missing in the menu bar everytime I restart even it is checked in the preference. I need to go to MAC HD/Library/Core/etc to enable it again.

I also experience iPhoto hangs even I redownloaded iPhoto from the Mac App Store.

I think I am in the same predicament as you were.

    >> My MBP came with Lion. So do I update it to the latest Lion first and then Apply the Mountain Lion?
    >> What do you mean by "booted from recovery", "Disk Utility erase", "Installed ML clean"?
    >> Apart from creating a Mountain Lion Installation USB (which I know I can create using the file I downloaded), am I able to create a Lion USB Installation USB?

I ran the ml installer to upgrade my mbp.

After the upgrade, i booted into recovery.

Then, i ran disk utility from recovery to erase the hdd.

    Then i ran reinstall ml.

    -----

Since I didn't know about the USB option at the time, I ended up doing double download of ml on each machine.

Ah, so if Mac came with Mountain Lion, we can still download the Mountain Lion for free so we may create a backup (for USB installer purposes)? And the same applies in creating Lion USB installer, if Mac came with Lion?

Once you've purchased ML, you can download it over and over again if you wish.

I may be wrong, but from what I know, it will not show up in Mac App Store if you didn't purchase it (whether bought or via up-to-date program).

If your Mac comes preinstalled with Mountain Lion and you need to reinstall the OS, that's what the bootable Partition 10.8 is there for (accessible by holding the option key while booting up), in which case, the installer will be downloaded fresh when you select "Reinstall OS X".

BTW, don't think that I am encouraging people to download multiple copies for multiple installations.

If you purchase ML, you are entitled to install that in all the computers that you personally own.

If you bought a Mac preinstalled with ML, you should buy ML for your other computers.

If you downloaded ML through the up-to-date program, you should buy ML if you wish to install in your other computers.

Of course, all of this is based on honesty system. Personally, I feel that the $20 is a small amount to pay for a clear conscience.

My MBA is also a mid-2011 but the 1.6 ghz 128gb. I also did not notice any significant change in the speed. But that is not the reason why I upgraded because the MBA is fast enough for me. What I really like is the gatekeeper for security, and the reminders and notes. And of course, I hope ML would be more stable.
