Theres a lot of free open source applications out there right now. Some of them are pretty good, and are even great alrenatives to popular applications such as firefox and open office. recently i'd been fiddling around with GIMP, an open source alternative to adobe photoshop. i must say i'm impressed. It's not "Photoshop", but its pretty darn close. Any thoughts about the topic? or favorite opensource apps you guys may want to share?
Just installed Gimp today. There was a helpful feedback on versiontracker saying that if you're on OS X Tiger, you should use the X11 package on the Tiger DVD since it's newer than the X11 offered on the apple download webpage. Just put the first installation disk and double click on the optionalxxxx.pkg file (forgot the exact filename), then just select the X11 package. After installing, you'll be able to launch X11 based apps like Gimp and OpenOffice. The first thing I did with gimp was to properly scale my avatar so it looks sharper. [Edited on 9.15.05 by lamski]
