I tried Open Office 2 on my Macbook, and it worked fine. Problem is that it has become the default word processor for opening all .doc files. How do I switch the default back to MS Word?

Get info ( cmd + i ) on any .doc file, you should find an option labeled "Always open with...". Select Word from the drop down menu. You can do the same thing for most other file formats e.g. jpeg, tiff, txt, css, js, etc.

That worked. Thanks for the quick and accurate replies, Gomi and Muks!
