Has anybody else tried this? I only ran into it courtesy of my StumbleUpon FF extension... looks like a cool, if light way to pass time... For whatever reason, I'm drawn by the fact that it's Mac only, and completely free. Oberin is a Apple Macintosh only game, not for Windows. Oberin is free to play, we only ask that you follow a few rules and be courteous to others. Oberin is an online fantasy role-playing game and virtual community. Oberin takes place in a persistent, ever evolving world — your character may come and go, but the world continuously runs. While there are many separate quests that can be completed in Oberin, there is no ultimate goal when playing. The journey is the reward. It's an online fantasy world where the fun comes from interacting with other real players. You can join a group of fellow players to hunt for dragons, spend a quiet day fishing, meet a friend at the pub for a game of chess, or spend some time refining your chosen skills. Currently downloading the client, and will give it a try then maybe post my comments / review. Unless, of course, anybody else is already playing it the maybe we can discuss the game here. Character creation was off awhile ago when I finished downloading, but just as I was about to post about that here ( "Looks like character creator is down, guess I'll check it out later" ), I checked one last time, and it was up! Making a character now. Correction: have made a character and logged in. The GM team looks awesome -- the moment I logged in, there was someone there asking me whether I needed any help  Will check it out more tomorrow after school. Thanks for sharing the info! Nothing. You only need to enter something in the server portion if you're trying out a new server (beta testing). I played it for a couple of hours yesterday, but I'm reserving my 'review' until after I've progressed a bit further in the game. As it is - well, it's no World of Warcraft, that's for sure. The interface could use some polishing. Movement and animation tend to be 'jerky', and they should really fix their pathfinding. Character creation was relatively straightforward - though, one might wish for a smoother "get right into it" start. As it is, you have to run a separate app to create your character, only then do you run the actual game client. But it's a free game, so you get what you pay for. On the upside, yeah, the GM's were pretty responsive and helpful. Browsing through the forums gives you the idea that the community isn't very different from PhilMUG - lots of polite, relatively nice people more than willing to help each other out. Plus, they don't tolerate 'impossible' players. Being 'new' to the whole world of online gaming, I think this might be an excellent way to step into the foray. No having to worry about clans ganging up on you, or indiscriminate PK'ing, or looting and the like.
It seems that this is the only thread I have found dealing with Oberin so I'll just continue my post here. Is there anyone still playing Oberin? Actually, I need help in playing it. Yes, the Oberin community is nice, just like here in philmug (as reivi400 would share) but I need someone to ask about it. Especially a Druid. Thanks!
