There's a new window that occupies about a third of the normal space which looks like a permanent extension of the iTunes Music Store. I wonder if this can be turned off?

But you gotta give the marketing guys credit for inserting this 'feature' in iTunes. I can imagine the increase in sales the iTMS is gonna get.

you could also try pressing the small button alongside the eject button. it's a new button similar to the hide artwork button on the left side.

I just noticed something -- I was playing Mariah Carey songs, and somehow, almost magically, the items on display at the MiniStore pane changed to Mariah Carey albums and that of other similar singers and songs. Was this just coincidence? Or, was it reading my "artist" list? Can anyone else confirm this "tighter integration" with the iTMS?

That's what I meant... it's a marketing gimmick designed to get one to purchase more music based on what's currently playing by extrapolating other songs from the same artist or what other artist you might like based on other people's buying habits (like Amazon).

I actually like it as it opens me to try other artists I wouldn't normally have heard off.

It is somehow integrated. I was playing Daniel Powter song and the iTMS pointed to the album itself but if it can't find the right album, the result will be "No Match". It's really cool!

I'm a bit wary about this "automagic" display of related albums based on what's currently playing since it means that iTunes is now sending data *to* the homebase which ultimately means that Apple knows what you have on your iTunes Library (unless they explicitly say that they are not keeping a database of sorts regarding this feature).

Like Dave, I do agree that this is a pretty cool feature since users will be able to expand their horizons in terms of music choices.

As expected, there's already an on-going debate regarding this at Slashdot.

DJ, this article from Macworld might help. Though no specifics were given, according to the update at the head of the article, no info is being collected by Apple. If you're concerned about privacy, you can just turn of the ministore.

iTunes 6.0.2 can convert videos to iPod H.264 format

According to iLounge, one major feature of iTunes 6.0.2 is automatic H.264 video conversion for the iPod without need for you to buy Quicktime Pro. Right-clicking on a video track brings up a "Convert Selection for iPod" option. Finally!

Re: iTunes 6.0.2 can convert videos to iPod H.264 format

    Yes. Great feature!

I just did it now. I converted Apple's "Learning to Podcast" (QuickTime movie) into iPod format, it works!

I downloaded the "Learning to Podcast" and I was surprised to receive a computer warning that "Learning to Podcast" was not supported by iPod format. (And this was an Apple podcast!)

The computer told me to click the "Help" icon. In the help section, it says that I go to iTunes, click "advanced" > "convert selection for iPod"...

I went back to iTunes but I didnt see the "convert selection for iPod", instead, it was "convert to MP3"... What could be wrong?

And then i remembered I have already updated by Itunes to 6.0.2 but i havent restarted itunes yet.

    I closed iTunes. Restarted it.

And there it is, the "convert selection for iPod" command is clearly visible.

I want to kow though, what video formats are supported for conversion to iPod by this feature?

    Will explore some more. :)

    Ha ha ha ha!

Airtunes now supports MULTIPLE streaming. This means you can have have a single iTunes broadcast to multiple Airport Express units connected to Stereos.

Also, you can have music playing on Airtunes + the internal speakers of your mac as well. NEAT!
