It's a so-so upgrade. The more powerful GPUs, i5 Sandy Bridge Processors, and Thunderbolt are welcome additions.. Check out the specs here: http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html

It's a bit sad though that they're still pushing i7 as a BTO option.

    Hmmm... I just noticed that there's a 2gb option on it's AMD 6970 graphics card.. Lakas! :p

EDIT: "You can daisy-chain as many as six devices plus a display. The 27-inch iMac includes a second Thunderbolt port for even more expansion possibilities. Connect up to six more devices or a display or two." - You can now connect two external monitors via 2x thunderbolt ports.. This got me thinking.. badly. :D

The Thunderbolt must be a new interesting feature. Hope to have this too.

nice! even the "entry level" iMac's specs is very decent. :)

I just cant help but wish that the drive bay can easily be accessed without tearing everything apart :|

btw, why was the 24-inch line discontinued?

I'm surprised that they did not offer an i7 on the top of the line iMac. The ability to support 2 more displays is probably the biggest upgrade this time around.

I wonder how's the benchmarks of the entry level iMac i5 2.5Ghz QuadCore compared to i5 2.3ghz DualCore of MBP entry level.

Hmm.. I'm actually thinking of downgrading to the top i5 model.. (not sure if it's downgrading though, but I assume that last gen's i7 model is somewhat weaker than the sandy bridge i5). I do agree that having dual thunderbolt/2 displays is the biggest upgrade for the newly released iMacs, and I've been wooed by it.. That addition itself is very worth it for me. Will wait for the benchmarks before I make my final decision. :)

If you will be needing two more monitors. Go for it. Its going to be quite an expensive upgrade though. :)

    Also a tear down:

Re: Early 2011 iMac (sandy bridge processors)

Are these available at our local stores now? or do we still have to get it online?

I'm curious what kind of prices our local stores will give us for these iMacs now as they seem to be much cheaper than the previous generation line.
