my two day old 13" macbook pro makes a short clicking sound whenever it wakes from sleep. i've researched a bit and it might be the sudden motion sensor working, though i find it odd that it's doing it on a wake activity. anyone else having this symptom? should i get worried?
It's a clicking sound and not the mechanical hum of the Superdrive or the whirr of the Hard Drive spinning up?
Its just a very light clicking sound, no noise from the optical drive. It sounds like it's coming from the left part of the mbp. it's also not consistently happening, i usually hear it when i wake it up from a very long sleep. could it be the hard drive waking up?
That's probably just the drive or some internal component waking up, angel_benet. Observe it for a couple more days and see if there are any lags in performance or if the sound is getting stronger or "nastier"--an indication that there's something physically wrong with the drive. Having a new Mac is like having a new car sometimes--we watch out for every little click and hum, hoping everything is alright with our new baby.
it think thats normal, my unibody macbook has a humming sound every time i wake it up, i think its from optical drive.
thanks johannes, that was a relief. i also read some more on the topic and it seems it's normal, just the hard drive waking up indeed. totally different from the noises being heard by the 7200rpm hard drives on other mid 2009 macbook pros. this is probably my seventh mac since 1996 and yes you're right- watching out every little click and hum! @bhoyetjumpay: it's not the optical drive that's making a noise, it's a soft clicking sound coming from the left side.
