Starting today you can subscribe to Netflix without a VPN at https://www.netflix.com/ph/

Plans start at PHP370/month (US$7.00 + 12% VAT). First month is free.

I hope Globe and PLDT keep to Net Neutrality or else HD and Ultra HD content will be useless.

Another worry would be the MTRCB. Can they protect us like children from the worldliness of Netflix and shield our innocent eyes and ears like it's 1916 and not 2016?

Hmm interesting. Here's a plan, switch to Netflix PH payment then keep the VPN on for Netflix US content...

What I'll need now is PH VPN since I am not in the Philippines...

    Thanks for the heads up!

Netflix servers are actually pretty smart. Smart enough to downscale or upscale video depending on the connection you have. It will not stream an HD video if your data connection cannot handle it. It also buffers ahead of time and will not play until it has enough of the video to run smoothly.

Hopefully Netflix in the Philippines will reduce the amount of piracy going on. It sure did it for me. Why would I want to torrent a season of Arrow in HD if I can stream it from anywhere.

Now the question is what can we do to get a decent and affordable bandwidth provider that can handle the streaming video that Netflix will unleash. Don't quote me on this but almost 40% of US internet bandwidth usage is attributed to Netflix. I forsee Net neutrality discussions in the future because of this.

Yes. For my US netflix account, I paid for 2 screens and created a 2nd profile for them.

The required speed for Ultra HD streaming is atleast 25 mbps.

I got the lifetime promo of getflix and subscribed to the premium usd 12. I'm just on 3 mbps pldt Internet but I would say I get 720p resolution 70% of the time. Not bad.

How much speed do I need to get 1080p or even 4k resolution?

I hope they stand firm on it. I hate paying full price for butchered features and programming. I do not need someone stuck in the 20th century to tell me what I can view as a 21st century adult.

Hulu is for latest episodes, while Netflix is for 'archived' seasons. I also agree that Netflix servers have smartest streaming servers to use the correct streaming quality per your bandwidth. Got the free month to see what's in there and should keep my wife busy with older 'mainstream' TV series she didn't get to watch that are not available in Hulu anymore.

Now I didn't see this coming. That must be the reason Iflix is giving free subscriptions left and right. I mean I got a free 3-month iflix voucher from Smart when I got my 6s Plus but have since gotten 2 more free-for-3-months vouchers so one more and I'm good for a year :).

    Gotta try Netflix though.

My Netflix account is still billed at P427++ ($8.99) for HD streaming + 2 users at the same time. The reason for this is because I've been a Netflix subscriber for over a year and I wasn't included in the price hike for new subscribers which started at around 2nd half of 2015.

Just subscribed. The current library is uninspiring.
