Last night my ibook G4 started to have the problem of repeated need to turn off the unit thru a pop up message. I suspect a logic board problem as stated in some threads. Brought the unit to digital hub at vmall this afternoon and will know the problem by tom or Friday.

I know this has been discussed in the forums but my question is will apple extend my apple care for a couple of months to see if the repairs done with my iBook are ok. My apple care will expire this Feb 10, 2009. Thanks.

tonito, i experienced something similar before.

i bought a second hand MBP and it worked quite well for most of the time. but nearing the end of warranty, it started to act up. i took it to ynzal and they detected that it was the graphics card. soon after they fixed it, i experienced some more problems and took it back. this time it was the logic board. they replaced it and after a while, the problems came back. on the third try, i took it back to ynzal again but this time i called apple customer support. my main question was about the extension of apple care. now, they said that if they fix something, then they usually grant you an extension of several months. i was talking to apple in japan at this point.

now here's the thing: they know everything that's been fixed on the unit. it was pretty impressive. and we both agreed that having major repairs done to the unit, 3 times within the last 3 months was unusual. it was also beginning to be an inconvenience because it was affecting my productivity. they said i should observe the unit after the 3rd fix and if the problem comes back, then they will recommend to have the unit replaced. i was given an extension to my warrant. i was talking to a supervisor at this point already.

a week after getting the unit back, the problems came back. i called apple customer support again. this time, i had a direct line to the supervisor and her email address. they recommended a replacement unit and that same week, i took my 2nd hand MBP worth 70k to the apple store in greenbelt and picked up a brand new, mid-range MBP worth 120k. nice ending, eh?

so i suggest you take the time to call apple customer support yourself even if you already took the unit to a service center. always best to have them intermediate or at least part of the process. you'll never know what you can get. also, take a pic or a video with date and time stamp evertime something unusual happens. this just helped support my case.

a month later, they released the unibodies. had i waited and observed for an extra month, i would've gotten the equivalent of my MBP in a unibody. sayang, diba?
