i'm sure most of you guys already knew this, but what the heck, i didn't. i just thought i'd try it, and hey, it works!

i don't know if this works with other mail programs, but it does with os x's built-in mail program:

if you work a lot with attachments, you can just drag an attachment file over the mail icon in the dock. a new message will open with the file already attached. neat-o!

Yup, and if you drag an image, either from Finder or iPhoto, a resizer with a file size total will appear at the bottom of the new mail message.

One more thing. Let's say you're working in Word. After you save the document as a file, a tiny icon that appears beside the file name (in the top) becomes drag-and-droppable, even while the file itself is open.
