ShaQ has a point =)
When the NBA opens, they will be instituting new rules, like the social distancing violation. A player who gets too close to the opposing player within 3-6 feet will be assessed a team foul, giving the other player three free throws, plus that player leaving the game for a 14-day quarantine. Oh, and the team assessed the foul will be on a 5-minute lockdown allowing the other team to score at will. While maintaining social distancing.
This will be a tough season.
And you're not allowed to guard anyone outside the 3-point line and inside the paint!! Tough season indeed!!
Because of social distancing rules, only 4 players per side may play. Once a player has the opportunity to shoot, his guard cannot be within 3-feet of him.
Coaches are forbidden to shout instructions on and off court and are required to use a communicator to prevent COVID transmission during huddles. Sign language, including cuss words, are however allowed.
Social distancing type of defense? Why, we'll almost be back to 1990s basketball!
The only way to play real basketball is via NBA 20k!!
I just read and realized that at this time, it should be the Conference Finals already. Meaning, the Finals should be starting in 2 weeks. I really think the season should be scrapped. If they re-start the season in June, make a "quick" playoff, they'll still probably end in August, and that's the start of the summer league (which will probably be scrapped). End this season in August and start the pre-season in late September? That's a lot of mileage and little rest for the legs of guys like Lebron.
RIP Jerry Sloan. Arguably one of the best and longest tenured coach in the NBA. The Jazz would have probably won an NBA championship had it not been for MJ and the gang.
He was also a player in the 1970's Bulls. These were the Original Bad Boys with Sloan the leader. He was great at pulling the dribbler down & making it look like a charging foul. He was also known for giving "hard" fouls. RIP Coach Sloan.
there's talk of play resuming in a bubble like in Disney World Florida. & a play- in format for the No. 7 to No. 10 teams battling for the last 2 slots in each conference. Possibly a winner take all or twice to beat tourney for those teams.
interesting. it was reported that the players would be more than willing to do this since I understand that in most players contracts they forfeit 40% of their annual salary if the season is not revived..
^and who wouldn't want to be quarantined in the "happiest place on earth," getting paid big bucks doing what you love to do??
Only the top 10 teams of each conference will attend to play for the remaining lower bracket playoff slots. That seems to be what some commentators are saying IF the NBA pushes through with the “Disney Playoffs”.
I hope the team standings last March will be the basis for the draft lottery.
hopefully, someone organizes a Space Jam Tournament between Looney Tunes All-Stars led by Bugs Bunny and the Disney All-Stars led by Mickey Mouse!!!
Might be one-sided if the MCU characters are allowed to join the Disney team.
Some players are now saying they’d rather not play in the proposed tournament to determine the seedings (at least, the lower half) for the playoffs and instead take the time to recover and recoup themselves for the next season. Some teams, especially those so close to being in the seedings, may actually decline to play and allow instead the current standings to be the basis for the playoffs. Teams like Milwaukee, LA Lakers, Toronto, Boston, Denver, Houston, and those whose seedings have been set would rather wait what the NBA is proposing for its playoff format. For now, allowing all 30 teams to play in Florida would depend on either:1) is it worth it? 2) would we instead decline and build up for next season?
Disney Originals only. Too much drama in the MCU, baka mag-civil war ulit!
A lot of DC movies were released thru Warner Bros. So Looney Tunes All-Stars+DCU vs Disney All-Stars+MCU. What a game!!
If the NBA will conclude its season at Disney with all teams "quarantined" in 1 location with their families...
I really hope the NBA brackets the play-offs as per the team's current win-loss record... NO EAST NO WEST... just rank all the teams from 1-16
This season's champion will have an asterisk anyway and I don't think they'll have a fancy parade.
I'm reading The Victory Machine, about the making and unmaking of the Warriors dynasty (or that's what the cover says), and it's an insightful view into the business side of the sport, as well as an unromantic view of the NBA.
“Athletes know where the real money is. Nike reached a $100 billion market cap, largely thanks to their investment in a twenty-one-year-old Michael Jordan. Jordan, now fifty-four years old, makes more in one year off sneakers than all his NBA player earnings combined. He’s still wedded to Nike, but was estranged from the Chicago Bulls even before he bought a competing team of his own. Superstars show more loyalty to their brand than to their teams. LeBron James is on his fourth NBA team, having gone from savior to villain to savior again in his home state of Ohio, and then on to Hollywood for a new conquest. Through all of that, he stayed true to his lifetime deal with Nike. It figures. Nike boasts the ability to extend his sphere of influence long after retirement, across time and across the world. An NBA team is impotent by comparison.”
- Excerpt From The Victory Machine by Ethan Sherwood Strauss
Updated market value of Nike = $122 Billion
Value of all NBA team = average value of NBA team of $2 Billion x 30 teams = approx. $60 Billion
Nike revenues = $34.35 Billion
NBA revenues = $8.76 Billion
