The new Myst was revealed in E3 in Los Angeles. See it here. Walang tulugan na naman! [Edited on 5-13-2004 by Adel]
Ang tindi naman ng PSP na yan! Heard it will only come out end of 2004 in Japan and 2005 to the rest of the world.
Here's a green one. I was actually skeptical until I got to play around with it. Form factor would make Ive proud. Very sharp video quality, excellent graphics, like a PS2 in your hands. Widescreen adds to wow factor. Also available in aluminum. Only thing that sucks is the 2.5-hr battery life w/ video. And buying movies in UMD seems impractical. Still, it's VERY nice.
Myst IV is now available at Datablitz. I just picked up my copy. It's a whopping 3GB installation on two DVDs. Plus Myst III Exile is included on a single DVD. It sure beats chaging discs (remember Riven?) I'll be gone after a few weeks. This is going to take a while.
So how's MYST IV play so far? Have downloaded the demo and going nuts in the fireplace trying to find the corresponding lit squares. Oh yeah, running Nanosaur and those darn little dinos are leaping and snapping while my pterodactyl gets shot at (hint, turn on rocket boosters to outrun the shots). But haven't figured out how to blast the gun towers, the firing bit seems to have no effect unless I'm doing something wrong. Cherrie
Shhhhh... busy. Hehehe. Just kidding! Here's my take on the game. Having played every Myst/Cyan/Ubisoft game that has ever come out on the mac (just wishing that Uru did) It's been a while since I placed my hand on the linking book. Installation Right out of the box the game is on 2 DVDs. The 3rd DVD is Myst III Exile. Installing is pretty straight forward. The minimum installation is 3GB on the HD with your system folder. I tried installing it on my external HD but that didn't work. There is another option for compete installation but I didn't have enough space so I'm not sure how much space that eats up. Gameplay The coolest thing about the DVDs. You don't have to switch discs! Or at least I haven't gotten that far to switch discs. The game just loads and loads and loads on the fly!. No more trying to find the next disc that comes. The first major puzzle was a bit confusing at first but just listen to Atrus and all will be well. You now have a camera and a projector that will allow you to take snapshots of almost anything and type notes, thus reducing the need of paper and pencil, but I still have the habit of taking notes down manually. There is a modified zip mode which I find convenient. You now have a compass. Once you click the compass, you have to option to zip all over the world in a flash. The puzzles range from "aaahhhh" to "what the??!" and the "arrrgghhh!??" I can't say anymore without spoiling the story. Graphics My trusty old powerbook can still take the graphics requirements and you find yourself immediately immersed into Tohmana. The graphics seemed smoother on Myst Exile, but the ability to look around whenever you want it is a great addition. The hand could have been better designed or something but it could be just me trying to squint my eyes on a 12inch screen trying to see if the hand is gripping something or tapping something. Audio The soundtrack is much like earier myst games with a song made by Peter Gabriel. The song doesn' get in the way of the gameplay in some areas as it tries to soothe your head after going around in frustration trying to wonder what to do next. Difficulty It's pretty challenging. Compared to all four myst games I will list the difficulty of this game right up there with Riven and the first Myst game. Exile was just easy. There is a quote in the game where it states "this is harder than the Voltaic puzzle by ten times". Story Well the story begins when you get a letter from Atrus, asking you to come to Tohmana to help him with something concerning his two sons. Anything more than that, I'll be giving away the story. Take heed, you will lose sleep over this.
Guys, I recall there was a topic with regards to the Myst Trilogy set in the forums. (I can't find it with the search function.) And there was someone there who posted that the original Myst wouldn't work with our Macs. I just want to confirm this since I'd really want to play the original all over again. Thanks and Godspeed.
MYST and #2: Riven (5 CDs! But nice box and sleeve artwork) run on OS 9 or you can get away with running it on Classic. MYST 3: Exile is OS X native, but I think there's an upgrade patch on the Ubi website. I have the original MYST but it won't let me save the game, so I had to play it straight thru a 4-day weekend. The MYST 4: Revelation box also comes with Exile. There is also the 10th Anniversary DVD collection of the MYST trilogy but be warned, I think this box has MYST 1 as PC only (snarl!) while 2 and 3 are cross-platform. READ THE SMALL PRINT on the box to make sure about MYST 1, the website doesn't say anything. Both box variants are available in Datablitz now. Forget URU, it's PC only.
