hi, just need to vent. i was planning to buy an MS Office installer, of course, the non-pirated one, coz i cant imagine installing a pirated version on my mac. i knew tht it was worth 12thou something for the other versions - except for the student-teacher ed which only (as compared to the 12k version) costs 4000. so i was saving up for the latter, since that's the only version i could afford. and i badly want the case (the plastic, transparent case) - coz, wala lang, kase nga original and i could use it for some other purposes - and just thinking that it's for my mac * i dont make any sense, why i want the case, but, whatever * so i went to powerplant to check out the package, then the staff told me, that if i choose to buy the 4k version, they'll burn the cd installer for me, then they'll give me the registration code - that means, without the original package!!! without the plastic case - the plastic case is cute *im sure you know what im talking about* i was so upset, that ill pay 4k pesos, for just a burned cd with just a "registration code". it doesnt seem fair at all. ganun ba talaga 'yun? or they were just trying to scam me? - well at least the salesperson who attended to me? any feedback?
well, i experienced the same scenario before with powerplant thats why i did not avail. is this legal? i think not.
macychic, why don't you try other branches? i smell something fishy here. this does not sound good at all. sa alam ko di dapat ganyan...
wow, thank God... akala ko ako lang ang nakaisip na hindi legal 'yun... cuz, if that would be case *and cost* then i would just use the neo they were talking about...
When you buy software, you are actually buying a license to use the software, and not the actual software itself. Microsoft owns the software, they're selling you the rights to use it. It doesn't matter where you get the installer. You could be using one that's been copied or burned for you, or installing from someone else's original installer disk. In the end, as long as you have a unique license, which you paid for, then you have a legal copy in your system. I'm not too sure about the unorthodox method that PowerPlant store deploys, but it doesn't mean it's illegal. I understand how you feel though, it would be nice to have the original installer disk, along with the original packaging, but the truth is, you'll only use that once (unless your computer crashes or you wish to MIGRATE to another machine). I say once because the student teacher version is a single user license. Hope this helps. BTW, macychic, it's spelled Mac, not MAC.
thank you for the correction btw, where did you buy your installer? how much? but i think the 12k package is a bit too pricey for me.
if its P4000, mura na..if you buy it abroad it will amount to P10000 (converted) for the student/teacher edition.... why dont you try greenbelt or megamall branch
The Student and Teacher Edition boxed version actually comes with three licenses, i.e., you can install it on three different macs at the same time. My hunch: The P4k that you're being asked to shell out buys you 1 of the three licenses per box, that's why you get a CD copy of the installer. Arguably, that could be fine, for as long as no one else has the same license/product key you get. One the other hand, shelling out P12K will get you the (nice) box, the original installer disk, and 3 different product keys/licenses. (it might be cheaper with other mac stores like ynzal--I got mine in Singapore for approximately P8K). Note that the Standard and Pro editions are actually even more expensive. MS lawyers would probably beg to disagree and argue to the last nit that they can pick.
Apart from the serial number you should also get a license pack document with your serial number, i.e. if they are selling you an OEM copy of MS Office Mac. Also make sure you get an Official Receipt that states specifically what software you've purchased. Dang! Really? I thought it meant MS Office for My Apple Computer!
It's really hard to find someone selling the original Microsoft Office for Mac. Most Apple stores don't have the original one. It was just good that my friend was kind enough to give me one of the serial codes of his original pack.
Oh my, I never knew that... then again, I never read the EULA in full. I'm wondering how they generate the sn#s... and is it really legal not to provide the original box with the serial number attached to the CD case?
Don't mean to offend or suggest anything here. Just asking. Doesn't the the Student Teacher Edition of Microsoft Office for Mac require that the office suite be installed on a computer registered to an enrolled student or a teacher (whether K-12 or University)?
u mean studying at an accredited university by apple,is there such a thing? sorry, hindi 'ko alam eh. but in any case, am still studying, so pwede pa ren
Exactly, although some sites that sell the Student-teacher Edition don't ask for an ID... like Amazon. In any case, you just need a current and valid ID to be able to get the discounted software. The computer to be installed on needs to be the property of the student or teacher... at least that's my understanding.
There was this incident at AppleCenter@Orchard same case as the burned CD. I got the Student & Teacher Edition in Singapore for a promo price of SGD 255.00 with 90 days of free broadband access last december.
If its the student/teacher edition and your not a student/ teacher, microsoft will still consider it pirated.
