Hi Mac experts, would anybody know if a 64GB Kingston USB / Flash drive work as a Time Machine back-up? What are its Pros and Cons? For one, it's only 64GB, but I do not need a bigger back-up device anyway. Thanks! :)

Yes. any flash drive or any storage disk drive can be use as a TimeMachine backup disk. Anyways, in time machine you can just select what ever you want to be backed-up, you just have to specify that folder, go to TimeMachine options. So, any storage size of your flash will do.

But isn't when you connect a USB drive (2GB, 1GB, 512MB, etc) Time Machine does not detect it as a backup device? Can it detect that a 64GB flash drive is a possible back-up device?

Dude try it. n_n You just format your drive as a time machine back-up, I haven't tried setting-up a flash drive 1Gig or less for my Time Machine. But for me any disk drive will be detected by TimeMachine, you just have to format it as

I don't think time machine will support a USB volume.

Here are some volumes that TIme Machine Doesn't support:
    1. Bootcamp Partition
    2. iPod
    3. Disk Image
    4. Airport Disk
    5. iDisk

So, I guess USB drive will work

Ok, I plugged in a USB drive and this showed up:

It just needs to reformat it to work, though you need a pretty big flash drive for continuous use. My Time Capsule. Gamer BTW is my Boot Camp Partition so I guess a reformat will also make it work.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't have the balls to reformat my USB and check if it does work since it has a lot of stuff in it.

    @Chi

I told you it will be detected as a backup drive. :) Now you just have to format your thumb drive as TimeMachine backup drive.

    GoodLuck to your TimeMachine backup.

    $99 price tag, Trascend jetflash v20, Read 25 MByte/s, Write 12 MByte/s (above 16GB).
I was tempted to get that for myself but settled for a 32Gb instead for $64
now, i am tempted to get the 64gb.
