Just like whenever Apple releases new hot product line, rev 1 tends to have these kind of problems.

here's apple's official support page addressing the wifi problems of the iPad... sadly it does not pacify our fears of thinking buying an iPad now is lik playing Russian Roullette... even though the chances of getting the bullet are very very slim...

Sometimes I really don't get the whole "Don't buy a REV A" of any Apple product. Given na daw kasi, na these particular products will be full of bugs.

Now for this particular bug sa iPad... MAN! that's a pretty big bug to go unnoticed during the production of the darn thing! I mean, the product is for surfing the net wirelessly via WIFI. You'd think they would've ironed out that little wifi detail before releasing the darn thing. :|

Re: Some iPads have wifi problems?

engadget has a poll for this wifi concern.

    http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/06/dost-thine-ipad-trouble-thee/

the problem I have with the poll is that they allow those who don't have an iPad
to vote! they shouldve just kept it to curre y ipad owners. And worse it seems you can vote more
than once. So anti-apple fans can easily fan the flames.

Here's the results as of 10:15 tonight.

    http://i38.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/tjman77/photo-30.jpg.html[img]

but if I did the math correctly, if you add the votes of those with wifi problems and divided by the number of those who have ipads: the scary percentage is really 29%??!!!

Please tell me my math is wrong!

Re: Some iPads have wifi problems?

@KKP....it is even higher at 41.52% ......8,798 iPad owners who participated in the poll reports issues with the iPad, against 12,392 iPad owners who participated in the poll reporting no issues with the iPad. If this poll is accurate, we can extrapolate 123,000 potentially defective iPads out of the 300,000 iPads sold on launch day. Wow.....that is cause for ahhh......concern.

Re: Some iPads have wifi problems?

@raypin... yay. thank you for indee telling me myath is wrong... pero ibang wrong! kulang pa pala!

again, so as not to freak you all out. engagdets poll is not hack-proof. it is open to all, you can vote more than once, and they stupidly let non-iPad owners vote

aside from the fact that they are not a reputable survey firm like say Nielsen, it's very possible anti-apple fanatics could jump in to fan the flame.

Also, for all you know iPad owners WITHOUT problems could care less and may not even open the link nor participate in the poll. You know the saying: moslty negative feedback gets an effort to be sent rather than praises.

but nonetheless. it's a big chunk and should be taken seriously by apple.

we might just have to say the "R" word here

if you have defective wifi: RECALL the damn thing.

Re: Some iPads have wifi problems?

@KKP.....yup I agree. These poll (and similar from Gizmodo and other Tech blogs) are not necessarily scientific. For a truly scientific survey, the sample size has to be randomly selected and the poll questions carefully structured.

The most valuable insight that can be gleamed from this unscientific survey or poll is that there are specific problems with the iPad as it interacts with existing routers. Maybe it is a driver problem or something and not necessarily caused by manufacturing defects, quality slip-ups or it could just be plain consumer stupidity (in the operation of the iPad).

Going back to the Engadget poll, I understand the reason why Engadget included no. 7 (I don't have an iPad but have issues) in the poll: to remove the chaff from the grain (iPad haters or uncommitted have an an outlet). Having done that, it skews the results of the poll. The relevant number is 21,424 iPad owners who participated in the poll. Adjusting the percentages, it should be:

    Weak wifi: 15.66%
    Losing wifi: 10.43%
    Overheating: 10.31%
    PDF exporting woes: 1.6%
Network settings and password loss: 3.4%
    All's well and good: 58.44%

Obviously said work arounds are easy to implement at home or if you have access to the router.

However this will hurt the more mobile users since I doubt places like coffeeshops, hotels, & malls will allow you access to their routers. Unless of course, said establishments implement them on their own.

I hope fellow muggers could validate this by sharing their experience with their iPad.

This recent development made me re-think plans of getting one as soon as it's available in the Philippines.

I was having issues connecting the iPad *to our wifi at work. For some odd reason when using static disables the wifi.
