    Hello

A strange thing happened to my wife's new MBP 15" 2.53

It's about a month old, and she recently got a Magic Mouse to use with it. Everything was working fine for the past weeks, the mouse communicated with the MBP through bluetooth, normal usage.

Then tonight, she turned her MBP on, and her Magic Mouse wouldn't work. The bluetooth icon in the upper right of her screen has a jagged line through it, and when you point to it, it just says Bluetooth Not Found. I went to System Preferences, and the entire Bluetooth option/icon isn't even there anymore. It's as if Bluetooth just upped and left the MBP entirely.

She said there was a System Update last night, she downloaded and installed it, and it was fine.

I tried some remedies from the web and the Apple site:

    1. Under Disk Utility, repair disk permissions.

    2. Restart while pressing Option, Command, P, R while the MBP is booting up, wait for the the startup tone to sound twice.

Both to no avail. My next option is to bring it to DH where I bought it, and hope Charlie's guys will know what to do.

Have any of you guys ever encountered this?

I have a slightly older MBP 15 2.4Ghz and use a Logitech V470 bluetooth mouse for the past half year, and I've never come across a problem like this.

Thanks in advance. Any advice will be much appreciated!

This may sound too noobish for me to say but, have you checked if the Bluetooth is actually turned on?

the fact that the bluetooth hardware is not detected by OSX means that it can't be turned on. Usually a reset or two does the trick. When restart fails, have it checked by Apple Service

In System Preferences, under Internet & Wireless, the entire BLUETOOTH icon is not there.

Like I said, it's as if Bluetooth upped and left.

Stranger still, after more than two days of no bluetooth, my wife's MBP righted itself today and started working normally.

    Thanks for all your suggestions!

Alikishi, thanks for the extensive advice, I will do these solutions if it happens again. Hopefully never. :)

That has happened to me twice. An SMC Reset has always solved the problem.
