I use Mail.app to check and download my email from Yahoo. For the past three years, I've always left the messages on the server for back up purposes. Everything worked fine up until yesterday. Instead of downloading my recent messages I noticed that it was trying to download ALL my messages even if they were marked as read.

Can someone please help me. This is the first time that I've encountered this problem and I can't find any solutions.

I'm using macfreepops to access my free Yahoo! Mail and have been experiencing this as well.

The cure and so far that's the only thing step I've done lately that seems to prevent it from re-downloading already downloaded email, is to migrate to the All New Yahoo! Mail layout, instead of staying in the classic.

Maybe something about the data, maybe psychosomatic. but my mail.app's been duplicate free since migrating to the all new yahoo mail. I hate the web layout of all new yahoo mail, but i think there's something about the data in all new yahoo mail that fixes the bug or whatever causes the "redownloading" of already read mails from the server.

If you're into scripts, though I don't personally wanna use this due to it's non-straightforwardiness, you can try using this

    Hope this helps.

Hmm, the thing is I was already using the new interface. I even tried reverting to the classic setting but no luck. How long have you been experiencing this problem?

I haven't found any answers as to why this happens. Or how to prevent this from happening again. But I did find a lot of apple scripts to help remove duplicate messages.

I just want to know if these scripts are safe? I don't have any experience yet with them. Is there anything I should be aware of before proceeding?

    Thanks
