I recently saw in a store that the macbook pro charger is 30 percent bigger than the macbook charger. Can you use the macbook charger for the macbook pro? I don't want to carry around a huge charger in case i decide on getting the macbook pro. Thanks.

The smaller MacBook charger can be used with a MacBook Pro, however, it will not charge the battery when the computer is in use. It will simply supply power to the unit. When the unit is in sleep or shut down, the battery will be charged.

IOW, the smaller adapter does not have the capacity to power the MacBook Pro's system and charge its batteries at the same time . It's one or the other.

    Hope this helps.

How about the other way around?
Is it okay to use the Macbook Pro's charger on a Macbook?
Will it affect the battery life in the long run?

Good thing I found this thread first before posting a new one :)

No problem using the Macbook Pro charger on a Macbook. If you look at the 85W charger of the MBP, it will have two power ratings: 18.5V - 4.6A (the Macbook Pro requirement) and 16.5V, 3.65A (the Macbook voltage, which is the same rating as the smaller 60W charger that it is bundled with).

Yes, same price. The only situations I can think of where you would want to choose the smaller charger are: (1) you prefer less bulk; and (2) you are using the laptop with a DC-AC inverter whose maximum output is exceeded by the MBP's 85W charger.

Wow is that's true? I asked an Apple technician they told me in the long run di pwede daw MBP charger with MB. kc nga 85 w and the other is 60W

So apple said its OK to use MBP charger to MBs? kc nga masmabilis charging ng 85w charger and same price as 60w. so no problem with warranty?

    thanks Mac Friends!

i don't think mas mabilis ang charging, coz the charger itself will adapt to what it's connected to. that's what i understand from the statred dual rating.

    peace out!

Here is an inquiriry. I just went to power mac and the guy there said not to use the pro charger on a macbook or macbook air as it will just cause issues with the battery.. The person wasn't that specific though.

So can I use my Pro 85W charger on my folk's MBA and other peeps MB old and new?

My bf has a macbook and I own a macbook pro.
We would use our chargers interchangeably, so far we haven't encountered any problems at all because of that.

Though I don't really notice the difference when I use the macbook charger on my macbook pro--if it charges slower or what compared to my own charger.

It might work but would be awkward to use, considering that the MBA charger's Magsafe port is at a 90 degree angle to the cable (unlike the MBP, where it is mounted conventionally). You might need to prop the MBA over the edge of a table to get it working with the MBP charger, unless you will deliberately kink the MBP charger's cable (which isn't a good idea).
