    chocque_addict,

Some preliminary questions first if you don't mind.

You have active IM accounts naman before you got Adium di ba? I ask because I don't think you can "create" new accounts from scratch through Adium - you can only login to them.

If you do have an existing account (e.g. yahoo) - make sure that it is registered as an account to log into in Adium (via preference>accounts) The default settings Adium has for YM connectivity should suffice so you don't have to do some extra stuff (like with GoogleTalk)

Next would probably be for you to check if the account (in this case YM), was actually online (logged in) the time you tried adding your contacts?

    Am I making any sense?

When I want to do video chat with a mac user, I use iChat. If I want to do video chat with a PC user, I use Skype for audio and YM for video. It works great!!! At least, sulit ang iSight!

  3. Yup, i have existing yahoo account. I'm currrently logged in to YM. Does it create conflict? Or is it our server?

maybe your contacts are offline, and are not visible in your Buddy list. Try checking View>Show Offline Contacts.

  5. Umm, my ym's working fine. so i assume that when i log in to adium, all my ym contacts would be imported in my new adium address book, right? The firewall's in our office is active, guess i just have to ask our it guy to fix the connection for me..Good thing, IM is legal here...hehe!;)

I'm not aware of any, you'll need something like Griffin's iMic or the alternative that longbeard sells (2nd post from the top).

I use the same setup as Supermom
YM for video and Skype for audio.
The built-in mic for the ibook is decent enough for me to ditch my headset.

Well, I think it is just coincidence. The crashing and all might have been caused by other things. Even though they could put virus in your computer through YM, you should not be affected because those are viruses for Windows. I will suggest that you upgrade to OS X. Thanks.

How is the quality of the video chat with a PC user when using YM? Is YM video quality just as good as iChat or is it jerky?

reviving an old thread ... :)

anyway, just like to ask whether anyone has experienced errors in file transfer using ym for mac. actually, walang error e, it just says on the sender's part that the file has been sent, pero sa receiver's part, no file was received.

    labo noh?

any one experiencing problems with Yahoo Messenger lately?

I have started to experience this just this week. Everything seemed to be OK with using yahoo messenger but now it either hangs or quits unexpectedly after a few minutes.

Is this happening to anyone else and does anyone have any ideas why it happens?

I am using an iBook G4 1.33 GHz running OS 10.4.6. I have been connecting to the network using wi fi and have to go through a HTTP proxy because of the office firewall.

Everything seemed to be fine a week ago, but now, yahoo messenger has becomed completely unusable.

    I have tried:
    1. deleting the preferences
    2. deleting the prefrences and the application and installing again

    nothing works

Using Adium is not really an option because I have never been able to make that work through a proxy set up. I also recently downloaded ver 0.89.1 and tried but could not connect. Kept getting proxy connection problems.

And I thought mine is an isolated case.

Same problem here. Yahoo unexpectedly quits a few seconds after I connect succesfully. Well, this also started early this week.

Something must be wrong with the Mac version...

I also attempted to use Adium, and yes, it doesn't work through a proxy server.

AHA! someone else has the same problem. I seem to recall there being a recent update to Tiger, do you remember if your problems started after that?

    Anyone else?

I also had some problems with YM. When I join group chats and send a message, it will be displayed twice on my screen but no problems with my freinds' display.

Also, YM would quit unexpectedly right after I quit.

I installed Adium the other night and tried to send a file. My friend never got the file
even though the status on my end says "file send complete".

I haven't downloaded and installed the latest updates.

Right now, I have no choice but to use a windows machine whenever I need to use YM.

OK I am now using yahoo messenger, connecting via wi fi on another network. Everything seems to work fine now. I guess having to use a proxy is causing the problems. I have been running YM for about an hour without any problems.

Hmmm now I have to talk to my network admin to see if there is a work around.

I'm on a G5, 10.3.9 and I'm having the same problems! It started last week too. I only use YM for email notification and this is a pain! I have to use Firewalls with no proxies to connect, but as soon as I connect, it either crashes or the program "disappears" - the icon is still in the dock, but I can't open the program. I have to force quit it everytime. What a pain.
