just found out to my dismay that the "pages" word processor just has one other option of saving files, i.e. as a microsoft word document. No option to save a file as RTF or as html? When I look at openoffice, which has tons of save options, this is a poor show (and I need saving as html or at least rtf badly). Did I overlook something?

In the "File">"Export" menu, you can save in Word, pdf, rtf, and plain text.

Invest some time reading the manual.

Or use the 'Help' menu (Help>Pages Help or command+?)

Question: I was working on my pages file which I saved earlier then pages unexpectedly closed. Can I still retrieve the work I've done after my first saving? Is it normal for pages to just shut down unexpectedly, and cause one to lose those important unsaved works? How should I respond to a situation such as this one? How can I prevent this from re-occurring?

Losing work in progress in pages for the nth time

It happened again - lost my work as pages closed down unexpectedly. Drawing grids for a "graphing form", I noticed that my MBP was taking too slow a time processing my copy-pasting of the boxes I've grouped. Anyone who out there who has had this problem as well? Aside from saving the doc more frequently, what else can I do? As I see it now, this inability of retrieve works in progress is a major drawback of the pages software.

Try Disc Utility/Repair Disk Permissions — there's some kink that's screwing up your saves. Anyway, frequent saving is a must, whatever software you're using. With the Mac OS X, it's so easy — Command + s.

In case, you were making a graphic paper by hand, I have a better way for you:
