I have a sizeable music collection and for some songs, ID3 tags like album artwork, genre, year released are missing or incorrect. What's the best program available that fills in or corrects the ID3 tags of songs in my collection.

Am particularly OC with my music collection and am looking to correct the ID3 tags on Greatest Hits compilation of artists so that the song's ID3 tags would reflect the earliest year and the original album it came out on.

Appreciate any lead on this search.

    I use lairware.com's Mpfreaker.

It fixes broken tags, grabs album art and CAN be set to change the tags to the earliest instance of the song (to get around Greatest Hits compilations).

Saved me a lot of time using other freeware apps since they all did NOT have a comprehensive solution like mpfreaker. Worth the $20 if you have a large music collection.

    hi Dave,

thanks for tip re Mpfreaker! now that i have an iPod Nano (and soon a 60gb iPod photo to replace my 3rd gen 40gb) , it makes sense to pay $20 for my collection.

    Pollux: Free Automatic iTunes Tagger

There's a lot of tools for tagging your tunes in Windows but none that are free for the Mac. Here's a great tool for that - free and tested by me, it even identified some of the more obscure tracks in my list.

Just highlight the audio in itunes and click the menu icon > tag selected tracks and wait. It adds album art and all the usual stuff. I was hoping it would get some lyrics for me as well but that might be for the more popular music. Did I mention that it's free (donations requested)?

Try gimmesometunes. Its free and also integrates with iTunes. When a song is played, it automatically put artwork, lyrics and infos of the song being played. You just need to configure it to control what it does. This is for Mac BTW.

Thanks for these tools, guys! I've been looking for something like this for quite some time.

UPDATE: Is Pollux only compatible with Leopard? I still have Tiger. The application won't start. Nothing happens when i double-click on it.

i suggest music brainz. download the mac client for free. it is superb and you can tag your whole library over a day (or weekend, depending on how massive it is).

    cheers!

Nice. Thanks for sharing! Such applications are very useful especially when you have a huge music library with incomplete tags. :)

I tried GimmeSomeTune before but it doesn't save the tags for the song, IIRC. It just displays the info. I might be wrong though. Had the same problem there on the lyrics though.

MusicBrainz also has free tagging tools for Windows.

Can u send any links of the app for pollux? I cannot download at the pollux site anymore. Thanks!

Are there are any applications that can automatically add album art to mp3's in iTunes? The iTuned add album artwork is not complete. I also use mp3Tag and I have to use crossover to use it. Thanks!
