    Good day!

I have officially made my transition from Powerpoint to Keynote, and so far, I'm enjoying every minute of it. Will be presenting at a conference on August 26th, so I'm hoping for a favorable response. I've watched the video tutorials on apple.com and browsed through some of the videos on youtube as well. Just thought I'd create a thread so we may throw ideas on the tips and tricks to make Keynote fully functional.

My first problem is the presenter notes. What exactly do I press so that my Mac displays all my notes, timer, and the build notifier, but only shows the display on the LCD? Can anyone offer some steps? I can only see Play Slideshow and Rehearse Slideshow kasi, on the view menu.

If there are others you can suggest, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

    Jay

Try checking out the preferences. Access it thru menu bar: Keynote -> Preferences, a window shoud pop up. Go to presenter display tab.

let's say you want to adjust the font size of the text in your slide, but they're inside shapes or text boxes. you can select all objects by simply dragging the mouse over them and/or press command + A to select all, then if you want to increase the size, just press command + "+" or command + "-" until you get the desired size :)

I also kinda recently made a switch to Keynote. A tool that really comes in handy is the Keynote Remote on the iPhone/iPod touch.

Yup, I've done that, gone to preferences, and played with the alternate display. But how do I actually use the presenter tools? That I get to see my notes and the clock while only the slides are shown on the LCD? I tried the Play Slideshow and Rehearse, still no dice. Sorry, I'm feeling a bit idiotic right now, hehe.

Hi Doc, here's what you do. First make sure you're displays are NOT mirrored.
Make sure the LCD projector is connected.
Go to Apple > System Preferences > Display. There should be an item there called Arrangement. Make sure Mirror Dsplays is unchecked. If you don't see Arrangement, maybe the projector isn't connected.

Second, make sure the following options are selected in Keynote Preferences:
    - Under Slideshow > "Present on Alternate Display" is on
    - Under Presenter Display > "Use alternate display to view presenter information"

Try this and when you Play Slideshow it should work.

Resolutions, Brightness, Colors (millions), Refresh Rate, Detect display, and Show display on menu bar. I can't seem to find that mirror thing, but I think I encountered that in Powerpoint before.

On presenter display, I've checked use alternate display to view presenter information.

On Slideshow, I've checked present on SECONDARY display.

Then I click View > Play Slideshow.

Am I doing something wrong? I guess the biggest part is the Mirror thing, which I can't seem to find, hehe..

    Edit:

Wait a minute, I received an error message, I tried searching Mirror Display, then I got this error message:

The Arrangement tab of Displays preferences is hidden because you only have a single display attached to this computer.

Okay, lemme grab the LCD and see if it works when it's connected. Thanks!

Yup that's why I said the LCD projector MUST be connected!!!
Arrangement will not show up unless you have another screen.

I'm presently revising my powerpoint presentations to Keynote. Had no problems editing the texts, but when I edit my pictures, Keynote closes. Why is this?
I'm using macbookpro 2.53, 4g laptop. Any solutions?

    @stephy:

    I've never experienced that before.
What format are your pictures is? Jpg, tiff, etc?
I guess it really shouldn't matter. The surest work-around would be to delete the photo that cannot be edited, then insert it directly from the source directory (iPhoto library or whatever) into the Keynote slide. It should then be easily editable by clicking View, Show adjust image.

    Hope this helps...

@incrediblue thanks, will try that. Hope I can still find the raw pic. Jpeg format.

@jole45 haven't encountered hanging during a slideshow. It hangs while editing pics, no problem with text editing though. Thanks.

Nah, you can’t make it 3D that way in Keynote. Go to your favorite graphics software and do it there.

Folks, I just discovered a cool Mac trick that you guys will love,

Remember that tip I gave earlier? Sometimes the Mac gets mirrored to the projector when you first connect it.

    You can:
    - go to system preferences
    - go to display
    - click arrangement
    - uncheck mirror displays

    OR

    You can simply press CMD-F1.

Press it again to toggle between mirrored and dual screen.
    Cool tip, right? Enjoy!

    Hey guys!

I need a tip about zooming in. For example you have a picture of the map of the Philippines. What I want to do is:

    1. From the full view map, it will suddenly zoom in to Luzon, then go back to Visayas, then the whole map, then go to Mindanao, then back to the whole map. It's sort of like a combination of magic move and scale. Anyone with tips on how to do this?
