I've tried several brands of brand new blank cd's or dvd's when trying to burn my music using iTunes. Each time I inserted a blank disc, it will load, then iTunes will give me a message "Please insert a blank disc." I have tried discussion threads on apple.com and other forums, but to no avail. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks. :p

Does the blank disc show up on the Desktop?

This might help: I'm using the latest versions of Leopard and iTunes.

Check if other disc-burning apps "see" the blank cd.

That happens to me. It is my external dvd writer. It's very picky. Before you backup your iTunes, make sure your can write on a similar media using your writing software and the same drive. If it can write then it can burn your iTunes data.

The fact that it does not show up on the Desktop and you've already tried different brands, sounds like the problem might be with the hardware. Bring it to a service center to have it checked.

Thanks but I will have to try burning a cd using other apps first before I have it checked.

Since the blank disc doesn't even show up on the Desktop, it means OS X doesn't see it, so it's unlikely that any other app will see it either. Won't hurt to try though.

Another thing to check, go to System Preferences -> CDs & DVDs. Verify that "When you insert a blank CD:" is set to "Ask what to do".
