Itunes play list/music file's transfer to external HD

    good day to all

I would like to know if this is possible every time I add a music file to my itune's library the disk space becomes less. I transferd my music file's to my external HD so to free my macbook's HD but once i add a song to my itune's the HD on my mac gets full again so when i checked the playlist is back again to the latop's HD. can somebody help on how to configure this itune's so the music files stay on the external HD not on the laptop's HD

    thank you

on iTunes - Edit, Preferences, Advanced Tab, iTunes Music folder location, change destination to your external HD

    hope this helps

you can also consolidate your library so that all the songs are just in your external hd. :) I believe it's FILE>LIBRARY>Consolidate Library.

After you do this, you can delete your Itunes Music folder under iTunes from your laptop.
