when subscribing to podcasts using itunes, it seems that only the 25 latest episodes of the podcast come up on the screen. is there any way i can see the older episodes so i can download them automatically?
click on the heading of the podcast and on the lower bottom of the itunes window there is a setting bottom. Click on it and then you are able to adjust the setting of the podcasts you are subscribed to.
@mig: Often times the podcast producer limits the amount of available episodes on iTunes. I don't think this is an iTunes policy. For example, I download This American Life by NPR, Car Talk by NPR, and The Lost Podcast with Jay & Jack with iTunes. TAL only has their most recent episode available. The most recent two for Car Talk, and quite a few by Jay & Jack. If you check out the website of the podcast you're looking for, they may (or not) have more episodes available for download.
all the episodes are available on the website. i can download them fine, but whenever i add them to my itunes library, they dont come out as podcasts. they end up in the video's section. any way i can add them into the podcast menu of itunes so everything is organized? i'm trying to sort out all my music/videos/movies so i can use front row properly
@mig: That I don't know. You may have to fool around with the metadata for it to be classified or recognized as a podcast. I've been wondering that myself. If you figure out how to do it successfully, please PM me how, or start a new thread showing how. Thanks.
i've been fooling around with the metadata but they just wont be part of the podcast menu :-S i'll just keep playing around and hope i figure it out eventually.
Have you tried to search that podcast within the itunes store using the search function. Once you open the itunes specific link "subscribe" you will be able to add the items you want and play with the settings. Can you show us your podcast list within itunes or how it looks like in your playlist as you mentioned.
there was a thread on macrumors about this a few years back, except I cant remember how the work around was arrived at. you might want to search their forum for this answer.
its the same in both. only the 25 most recent episodes. here's a screenshot of my itunes podcasts and the podcast within itunes. note that there are now actually 26 items in my itunes podcast list as there's a new episode out. however, look at the list in the itunes store. there's only 25 episodes!
That is weird. I subscribed to sesame street podcast and was able to download all >25 episodes. The default setting should be download recent one and retain all episodes. Unless your podcast really do not retain more that 25 episodes. addendum tried to subscribe to your scam school podcast and noted that there are only 25 episodes all in all for now.
Good thing i found this thread. I have a question: I donwnloaded a lot of podcasts the past few days but when I was about to watch them, some were gone and only a few left. Anyone knows why?
@makoy: Highlight Podcasts in the library at left. At the mid bottom left, click settings. What does it say under "Episodes to keep"? If you want iTunes to not delete anything. Select the setting that says "All Episodes". Otherwise, iTunes will delete older podcasts as new ones become available or are added to your library.
i keep all the podcasts downloaded by default. the odd thing is that there are already 42 episodes up and downloadable. http://revision3.com/scamschool/
did a bit of digging around and it seems like it all comes down to the RSS feed provided by the podcast maker. apparently revision3 only lists the 25 most recent podcasts. hmm.
It seems so. As i also noted the podcast list in itunes is only 25 items. I guess you have to download the rest manually.
try to use the search function of you mac as to where the directory folder of your itunes podcast is located and then just manually move it there. try to see if it will be included.
@macmon, manually moving the files won't work. I've tried that in the past. The software needs to recognize something about the files in order for it to be classified in the podcast area. Personally, I thought it had something to do with a tag in the metadata; though migs says it's something in the RSS/Podcast feed that does so.
i found a page detailing how to work it out through a dummy RSS feed, but i can't find it right now. i'll post it once i find it. looks a bit complicated though and i honestly have no idea how to do it. no way its the metadata. i've tried editing everything in both OSX and winxp and i just can't get the podcasts to come together under the show list through metadata.
