the iSync w/c was included w/ leopard will sync your palmOS devices to your mac so you can use the updated & better iCal & address book apps instead of the 1 on palm desktop. well at least it worked on my treo 680 but i think it will too w/ others. no need for the pricey missing sync w/c also has expensive upgrade costs. i bought the ver. for WindowsMobile5 before. when an updated ver. of missing sync for WM6 was released, the upgrade fee they require costs the same as the 1 for the WM5 ver. what the?! upgrade costs should only be a fraction of the previous ver.'s price. but for missing sync its not. my point is everytime missing sync is updated they charge their customers a hefty amount. good thing iSync ver. 3.0 now works! try it! but pls do a backup 1st. mine worked well & sync-ing is fast, even for the initial sync. as of this moment, mark/space [the missing sync devs] havent released yet a non-beta ver. for leopard. there are only beta versions w/c dont quite work well, as per feedbacks on their forums. haha! im thinking of posting this same thread there. whatchathink guys?
you mean no need to install Palm Desktop to sync with iSync? or you still need Palm Desktop installed?
palm desktop is still needed. this is for those who wanna sync their palms w/ iCal & address book. memos are still sync'ed w/ palm desktop as apple doesnt have a built-in memo app. 3rd party software take care of that like yojimbo. but id go for palm desktop's built-in memo app since it works great for my purpose.
FYI: you can sync using the built in ical and address book with isync even without missing sync in tiger. i've been doing this since i switched. You just have to install palm desktop too. It was discussed in a thread in mapalad: (check it out) http://home.mapalad.org/viewthread.php?tid=14201 the edge of missing sync over isync is: 1. you can sync categories (if you have one) in your palm in your mac's address book and ical 2. if you place pictures in your address book in your mac, the pictures also sync to the palm with minimal space occupied. 3. you can sync your iphoto/itunes library in your mac to your palm 4. you can sync folders between the devices 5. you can use your palm as a card reader (no additional softwares needed to install in your palm) 6. you can sync memos, sms, call logs, voice memos on your mac 7. some other small things All in the press of the HOTSYNC button these are the things that i enjoy using missing sync. If these are present in leopard then this would be a strong case for me to upgrade right away.
hi guys, recently updated to leopard and been trying to sync my palm treo 680 with isync 3.0, have been able to fix my initial conduit and bluetooth problems. problem is after syncing nothing happens to my phonebook or calendar, it just stays empty even if the notice says that the sync was complete. SOS. thanks.
my treo 650 wasn't able to sync PIM data using iSync3.0. i think it only works if you've already gotten Palm Desktop-iSync to work under tiger THEN upgraded to leopard. but if you're only attempting to install a fresh Palm Desktop on leopard, then like me, you'll need missing sync.
