Hi! I'm planning to invest for a Macbook pro this September and I'm thinking if the MBP 13" retina is good enough for video editing and 3d compositing? (Final cut pro, After effects, Maya) I can't afford the 15" yet but I need a laptop ASAP cause my laptop gave up on me. :(( Btw, would you recommend a 2nd hand? (probably 2011-2013 model) Thanks in advanced!! :)

A 13" MBP can run the apps you need but don't expect too much out of it especially if you render for HD and higher or with many effects. Renderings will definitely take longer and issues with heat will wear down your mac faster.

You can consider a desktop computer if you are on a tight budget and portability and Apple apps are not necessities (Although there are ways to make Mac OS run on non-Apple hardware). You can also substitute Premier Pro for FCPX.

If you really have only a 13" MBP as an option, better max out the specs on processor, RAM and SSD that you can find. Just my two cents worth.
