hi guys, I am using a 40GB Ipod and a 80GB harddrive Imac. I know your Ipod is like a mirror for your Itunes library. Currently I have 10GB of music uploaded to my ipod/itunes and only quarter of my cd collection is installed. I realized that if I rip all of my cds to Itunes, it will take it just fine (since my ipod has 40gig space) but will use 40 GB space also from my hardrive. I think thats an awful lot of precious hardrive space. Since I only listen to my cd collection one at a time, either thru my ipod(when i'm mobile) or thru itunes.(when i'm in the same room as my Imac) Maybe there is a way to only use 40GB not 80GB( both IPOD and Itunes) I prefer to free up my harddrive space and still listen to my collection thru itunes or via ipod in my computer. .
Hi cubix, Welcome to Philmug. You can opt to keep all your mp3s in your iPod and none in your HD to save space if you want by simply disabling the automatic update option. In iTunes with your iPod plugged in, click on your iPod to highlight it, then click on the iPod button at the lower right and click the option to "manually manage songs and playlists". From then on, you can just drag n drop mp3s directly to your iPod.
Oh wow!!! I did it. hehehe Thanks so much. My ignorance almost cost me a hundred of dollars, was thinking already of getting a separate ext. hardrive for my tunes. Now I can load all my tune collections . Thanks again. More power to this site, it really help me deal with this awesome hardware.
