Lately I have been having a problem with my iPhoto. Each time I try to open some pictures an alert message pops up: "The photo xxx could not be opened because the original item could not be found." I have been downloading photos--either direct from my camera or from the mail--the same way I used to for more than a year now. I didn't have any problem then until today. Maybe someone has been tinkering with my PB and accidentally changed some of my settings. What to do? Help! Thanks.
First, try rebooting and see if that helps. If not, trash the plist file (located in ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Lets us know what happens.
Toink, I had a similar experience a few months back. I couldn't access my iPhoto library and I got the same message as you did. After several failed attempts to repair it, and as a last resort, I went inside the iPhoto library through Finder, move all the original contents to another folder that I created, deleted the entire library of iPhoto (after making sure that all the images are intact inside the new folder where I moved all the images), and then opened iPhoto again (allowing it to create a fresh new library. I then re-imported all the photos back into it. I hope you'll find a less painful solution. Consider this option as a last resort, only when all other options fail.
Had that same problem a few weeks ago when I updated to the latest iPhoto 6.0.4 version Although I did the same thing as what Dominique James did, but I also kept the modified folder. Created a new library and imported everything (very long procedure). I haven't managed to merged the 'old' modified folder to the newly created library. At least you didn't lose your entire photo library. I now keep a back up of my entire iPhoto library as a precaution (which shoud be updated frequently).
You could also try holding down the Option key while launching iPhoto, then selecting the Choose Library option. The default location is ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library
trashed plist file but i'm still getting the same message... should i put it back in its location? sorry, i don't know so much about the technical aspects of my computer. :slanted: guess i'll have to do it the hard way, as dominiquejames and renzo advised. ouch!
