Hi! So around last week I bought a brand new iPhone 5S (sealed and brandnew/apple certified refurbished) from one of the Authorized Apple Reseller store here in Cebu. Everything was okay with the unit until I began to notice that the upper left corner started to become loose. (there's this "squishy/spongy" feeling to it and you can press the corner up and down) Now I wouldn't be bothered if this was a used or at least months old unit but the fact that I bought this brand-new is exactly what made me consider of bringing the unit back, not to mention it wasn't a week old!

So, I brought the thing to iStore SM Cebu and they said that I have to leave the unit for at least 3 to 5 days for diagnosis and if the unit is eligible for replacement it will take 3-4 weeks or even a month (according to them) for the unit to arrive. Wow.

Thoughts? Has anyone brought an iDevice with a factory defect under warranty before going through the same process? (3 to 5 days diagnosis and max 1 month replacement)

This is somehow inconvenient considering some of the experiences I've read before. (Usually BTB in Manila) that some units with factory defects are replaced on the spot (or one week max) and will only take a couple of hours to diagnose the unit.

Did you ask if they have a return policy for defective units? Try to call Apple Care 1-800-1441-0234 (PLDT and Smart Communications) 1-800-8908-8277 (Globe), maybe they can help you.

    Hi Guys,

I just got my iPhone last Friday at PowerMac Circuit Lane and it started to malfunction the following day. It has no sound at all unless I put my headphones. I went to SM Aura service center and the engineer advised that it had multiple hardware issues and they replaced it with a new unit (not the retail sale unit but the replacement unit which comes in a white box without accessories). As per the staff, their replacement units are brand new from Apple Singapore. Can anyone here confirm if the replacement units are indeed brandnew and not refurbished?

    Thank you in advance

You should've asked for BRAND NEW UNIT and not a white box unit since it's less than 7 days old. AFAIK, white box units are refurbished unless it's an iPhone 7 / 7 Plus.

Last week, I bought my nephew a 6s in Switch Bluebay and returned it after two day due to automatic shutdown and overheating problems. They want me to send it to their service center and have it diagnose but I demanded that they should replaced it with a new one since there should be a 7 days replacement period according to Apple Care. It was such a hassle but I threatened them that I will report the incident to Apple Regional and DTI if they won't replace it. The store guy wanted to reformat it but I said I want a new one because I don't want to go through so much trouble on having a faulty unit.

One thing I learned from this forum and personal experience, always call Apple first and seek for approval before going to any service center. We're not paying so much for crap service right?

As i've said on other threads A1661/A1660 modeled iPhones might not be covered by local warranty. You can either bring it to Apple Retail Store HK or QCD in SG.
