I'm pretty much looking forward to this version made specifically for the iPad. Let's start a discussion here! Let me kick it off by asking what do you guys know about how much of the new features would work on non-USBC ipads? Like external drive support, external displays, etc.
I'm trying to figure out an USB adapter for my iPhone to test this out...it is purportedly compatible with iPhones too. I can't find my lightning USB adapter cable
@jcsantamarina looks like I can answer your question. I only found my SD card adapter and voila! It doesn't load Photos anymore when I inserted the SD Card. I can access my files through the Files app instead. Since the USB protocol is a standard like in SD cards anyway any external drive that can be powered by the lightning port (or a powered hub) can be accessed the same way too.
Nice! Now I'm contemplating on getting the USB 3 adapter so that it has a lightning port to charge at the same time I'm using a USB device. I saw some videos that said that the Apple Magic Mouse doesn't work (can't be detected) while other bluetooth devices did.. WHy is that?
^^Seems like the non-standard pairing process of the MM2 is the problem. This is beta 1 so I’m pretty sure Apple won’t allow its premium mice not to pair up with its new OS.
There have been a few apps that suddenly close. But overall iPad OS is working well. I actually ended up buying a keyboard case for it as I am planning to use it if I need something more portable than my 13” MacBook Pro.
Happy to report that sidecar is now working on my trust mid 2012 macbook via beta 2 But it needs the ipad needs to be tethered via a cable.
Dude, when you use the iPad as an extension screen on your MBP, can you switch over to the iPADos while on side car? OR is it locked to sidecar function? And what resolution is on the iPad?
Is it a beta limitation or because of the 2012 specs that can't allow wireless Sidecar integration? I don't have an iPad that can run iPadOS so I'm curious of how Sidecar works
Sidecar screen appears like a regular app window on your iPad. So you can switch around iOS apps aand maintain a desktop I have a regular 6th gen iPad and it runs at 1024x768. Right now i just keep a fullscreen fantastical window open on it.
A new Sidecar icon appears on your system preferences and you can set several options from there. Your iPad then appears like a regular airplay screen that you can connect to from your menu bar. Once connected it will also appear as a display in system preferences. I think apple is limiting wireless connection s to newer MacBooks because it appears to take a heavy toll on processing.
Been using the beta since launch on my ipad pro 11, its relatively smooth and love the new dark mode... sidecar works great with my macbook pro touchbar and usb c peripherals like usb c drives now work on ipados 13
This may be OT, but does the MS Word tablet app work exactly like Word does on laptops/computers? Or are there full featured word processing apps for the iPad that work as well on the iPad as on the laptop already?
The MS Apps are relatively usable in a tablet form. Unless you use MS Word for things other than word processing (like I used to instead of using publishing apps) it has functional parity with the desktop app.
Do you have experience with Track Changes/markup tools, commenting on Word for iPad? Might switch from my Surface if this already works well!
^^ I don't use MS apps anymore so I'm not sure if it has the exact same functionality. A quick check on the MS Word app in the iOS store lists `collaboration tools` to allow to review revisions - I think it's a better implementation of Track Changes.
