Ooh, look who found a way to tether his iphone's data plan to d ipad? Sorry steve ;( ok so there's a work around - if you can see faintly in the background is my MBPRO... so i tethered my iPhone to my MBPRO via USB which i do a lot... and since i needed a note in my iPad and i wanted to email it to myself rather than sync, i said, maybe internet sharing would work from usb-tethering... and it did! =) so yes, i still use a 3rd device to do it, and you'd say it defeats the purpose... but in instances like mine, stuck in a cafe with no wifi, needing a note made on my iPad asap... or maybe your spouse could use the mac using the iphone's data and you share it with the ipad... the list can go on... point is, i am not spending for another data plan, trying to get the most out of my super surf as much as possible
Oh! From your iPhone to MBPRO thru usb then to iPad tru wifi. I am getting the iPad wifi only -- so I'm sure I'll be doing this as well. iPhone to iPad would be perfect though.
Interesting. This is internet sharing, right TJ? I do the same with my Macbook connected to the internet via LAN cable. I find this useful when I am in the office where there is no wifi and I want to sneak a few internet surfing moments with my iPad or when I bring my iPad in a meeting room adjacent to my work station. My next project will be to try to tether my Macbook to my Blackberry and then share the internet with my iPad. That'll be neat when I'm on the fly.
Instead of using this method, try using the MyWi app from cydia. It basically does the same thing, just without the Mac.
Besides requiring a j***b**ken phone [which is taboo here], this will quickly drain the iPhone's battery. So this is not an option.
While I won't further discuss it, I think it's a better option, since this option has much wider use cases Battery problems? Tag along a wall power adapter which can be used with both the iPhone and iPad. Much better if you have the 3rd party power adapters that can support two devices via USB
