Hi guys, After WWDC2017 last Tuesday, did anyone tried to install iOS11 Developer Preview on their iDevices?
Every year these annual betas have been the sole reason why I remain in Apple's developer program. I was hoping that perhaps I'd be able to use it on one of my everyday devices (which takes a lot of courage) much like iOS 10 last year, but the first beta this year makes it almost unusable to me. Other than the new notification centre announced that I believe turned for the worse, everything else itinerary will be super great once polished. So many little features packed inside this upgrade that satisfy so many of my prior nitpicks.
Did it on my old iPhone 5S. Looks good. I haven't seen apps crash yet. On my iPad Mini the screenshot annotation and Dock is a new feel-good feature. I think this convinces me to get the 10.5 iPad Pro soon.
You may already know that BPI's systems itself are problematic the past few days. Back on topic, have not tried it yet. But 2 iOS versions ago, BPI's apps didn't necessarily update immediately at public launch of the new OS. It took maybe another month or so.
Third party apps developers are getting the same beta OS at the same time (or a little bit earlier) as the public beta program members -- so do not expect third party apps to work properly. Even Apple's own apps are buggy on their own beta OS! AS always, beta software should not be used in production devices.
The redesign is something some of us will have to get used to [varying on individual reactions to the facelift], but the customisation freedom that came out of it is more than worth it. Cellular toggle and screen recording?
I tried iOS 11 on my iPhone 7, which is my daily driver. I like how the animation appears to be faster (?). But the best part for me is the Cellular Data Toggle in the Control Center. Finally, after years, they have decided to make this available to everyone. I also like how the system doesn't display the volume while you're adjusting it in the middle of a video. I don't like how with some iOS updates, Apple decides to remove some of the stock wallpapers. I don't get it. Does it take that much space to keep 'em all in there? I know I can download them, but it would be nice to see them all in one place.
Say this -- "it is beta software" multiple times. Don't "don't like" it until you get the final release.
I know the question seems weird but is iOS 11 beta stable enough to be installed on my daily phone (iPhone 7 plus)? The new control center is really good.
Is it just me that's worried that some of my apps would stop working on iOS 11? I really don't care if 32-bit apps would just be slower on the upcoming OS version, but to axe them completely? I think that's a lazy way of addressing legacy apps. Even 64-bit Windows for the most part, still support 32-bit apps (and 32-bit Windows supports plenty of 16-bit apps). They could at least provide some form of compatibility mode to run legacy apps. Then again, this is Apple we're talking about. I'll STHU now.
