    what? you sure? from apple:

"iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster)."

Oh, so that's why iMovie HD 6 is available for download for iLife '08 buyers.

Just like the previous version, I think you may either upgrade your current installed version or opt for a custom install which will install the new version while keeping your older iLife intact.

I changed the thread title since this is not a general discussion on iLife '08. FYI.

Re: iLife 08 not supported on a G4

If iMovie 08 runs on a G5, I believe someone will make a hack for it to run on a G4. It's not as if they've removed PPC Code. Of course, that means that it is NOT SUPPORTED by Apple on a G4s, but it doesn't mean that it can't be made to run.

Does this forebode the possibility that Mac OS X 10.5 will not be supported on G4 Macs?

Very unlikely, Apple always support their older products. Well maybe, i think the reason Apple ditched G4's to run iMovie is that the slowdown in performance level aint tolerable anymore. Anyone running iMovie 06 in a G4 knows its luckluster performance.

Amidst all these talks, we know that the solution to running the latest and the greatest Mac software is simple. And deep down within, that's what we want to do -- the right thing. And that right thing is to go to the nearest Apple/Mac store. Hahaha!

Yep one more thread title change to iMOVIE will not run on G4's. I have iLife '08 installed on a G4. It's just iMovie that wasn't installable. The rest are running fine. iWeb is nice :)

hhmm thread title's getting confusing:slanted: Linus noted "iMovie wasn't installable", which confirms previous thread title;)

The new iMovie must be making some 64-bit calls that, obviously, the G4 cannot handle. Which is probably why it's limited to the G5 and up.

well...i use imovie 06 on my g4...and yea it's pretty slow...i can only imagine how slow imovie 08 would be hehe...but on another post someone mentioned that in some ways, imovie 08 is a step backward so maybe it's a blessing in disguise that it didnt work :D
