    iMail and i-manila\'s incompatabilities

This used to happen before at times: Me trying to send an email via POP3 with my i-manila account only to encounter an error with my SMTP settings that went default.

I only have to reconfigure it and my email would be sent without any problems.

Just recently, I could NOT send ANY messages at all with my imail. Try as I may with reconfiguring everything and even resorted to erase my settings and inputting the proper ones, it resulted with an error with my SMTP.

What gives? Is there an iMail - i-Manila POP3/SMTP incompatibility? Did i-manila wise up and refuse to have people use their POP3/SMTP when those people use other ISPs to check their mail?

Or is it time for me to get either a yahoo/hotmail/.mac account?

    Daming tanong. Walang sagot.

I used to have a problem sending email with my I-Manila account while connected through Bayantel DSL. I had to dial-up, send via web access or resort to using my Yahoo! account to send email.

Then it just all disappeared one day. No problems whatsoever.

It's Entourage I have a problem with now. Won't send any email no matter how many times I put in the right settings.

    Jones,

I was a previous imanila user and if I remember right, they use IMAP.

Have you called their tech support?

I think it's more of Destiny that is at fault. I think I have yet to get their SMTP but their customer service is whack.

They have both IMAP and POP3 servers running. But, if you access your email through i-mail, then you only have IMAP as a choice, since Horde uses IMAP. You can check your mail using any POP3 client such as, Apple Mail.

    Jones,

Do I have it right that you've resolved your problem? I saw you applaud Gino in another thread.

Please confirm if so, so that we can classify this as problem solved (and that there isn't any Mail.app/i-Manila compatibility issue).

In any case, let me state that when using Destiny, you HAVE TO use their SMTP and not your non-Destiny email account's (outgoing mail) server. As Gino pointed out, Destiny uses smtp.mydestiny.net or mail.mydestiny.net. Although i-manila allows you to use their outgoing server even if you're logged on via another ISP, Destiny won't let you.

This is where Mail.app is great. The application allows you to select a new SMTP if the default one is being rejected. For someone like me, who is roaming wirelessly most of the time, it's a time saver to have a list of different SMTP servers ready for use.

Or, you can run your own SMTP server, which is what I do on my Powerbook. I just run Postfix (for Panther. Sendmail for Jaguar) locally and point Mail to "localhost". This works well for me when I'm wireless on the T-Mobile Hotspot network.

I also use Postfix locally for sending out i-manila email.

There is Postfix Enabler in versiontracker.com to help you get Postfix up and running. If you are still running Jaguar, there's Sendmail Enabler.

Yes, I still use my i-manila account. :D
