So this happened to my iMac. I think it still works coz i can hear the familiar sounds it makes. Before I take to Ynzal or Senco, is this fixable? Anyone with this experience? Tia

That could either be GPU or a display issue. It's repairable but check the cost if you think it would be worth it.

Try using an external monitor. See how things go.

great tip by cybersniper, If the external monitor worked only the LCD is damaged. otherwise, the board is toast, and that could be costly

Were you able to resolve this? Mine is kinda similar except for the screen displaying nothing at all.

BTB quotation is 38K+. These 5k iMacs don’t last!

Mine was just under three years. BTB replaced the screen, turns out that wasn’t the problem. New screen is dead as well

^He thought what you meant with "5K iMac" - is a 5,000 pesos iMac.... (instead of 5K resolution).

Same thing happened to my 5k iMac. Went to PowerMac, MacServe Manila and Ynzal. Their prices look almost the same. Cheaper actually to have it repaired at PowerMac.

What’s frustrating is that they all recommend to have both logic board and screen replaced.

At Ynzal, a technician tried turning it on using an external monitor and it worked. but their final recommendation is still to replace both.

I’m looking at the new 2019 iMacs but i’m afraid the same thing will happen.

Same thing here. Brought mine to BTB and they recommended initially to replace the screen but can't get it to work and wanted to replace the logic board too. I might as well get a new one than spend around 80K to fix it.

sorry man, not everyone in this forum is an expert like you. replacement screens from china are 5k only. that's why I asked for clarification. if you noticed, my imac is old and does not have a 5k res screen
