i'm currently looking to buy an imac. while mac mini is the more affordable option, i feel that it is not value for money and will come out more expensive. for the price you're paying, you still have to buy the additional monitor, keyboard and mouse; not to mention it doesn't come with a dvd writer/player. So i decided to just get an imac, currently exploring both options 2nd hand or brand new.

^ The Mac mini's "value for money" is only applicable when you already have the peripherals.

This is what's best for me as well. I originally wanted to get an iMac, but I already have a 20" Sony Bravia that I rarely use because I only watch TV for live sports events, and a Magic Mouse. All I had to do was buy a wireless keyboard to pair with my Mac mini and an HDMI-to-HDMI cable. I plan to get a MacBook Air at the next refresh.

Mac Mini for me.. Used to have a 2008 iMac, I had to live without a computer when I need to service it for the broken display.
The Mac Mini is easier to carry in case you're in a flood prone area.. :)

My 27" iMac was liquid damaged during typhoon Ondoy, I had to use it as a CPU and connect a generic display..

I also suggest that you wait for the next USB 3 equipped iMac, and Mac Minis..

i would love to have an iMac, but i would choose the mini, only because if you have the peripherals, buying and/or upgrading costs a lot less.

and it also doesn't hurt that it's quite portable.

cheapest Imac (21" model) is 60k. i dont think it will ever reach 60k for a mac mini setup unless you get a very expensive LED monitor (27-32 inches)

I went for an mini because I already had a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Also, i'm using it with mostly the monitor turned off anyway.

I went for the iMac because of the display and the GPU.
